Binocular Comparison: Nikon Prostaff ATB 8x25 reverse porro vs. Hawke Endurance ED 8x25

That's interesting, thanks. The gentleman who did that review goes by the name Beacon Hill on this site. Maybe he could provide an update on whether more recent production has more nearly matched the specs. I did a quick check on the Amazon reviews and saw one reviewer (also from two years ago)...

Binocular Comparison: Nikon Prostaff ATB 8x25 reverse porro vs. Hawke Endurance ED 8x25

According to Hawke's specs it looks as though the minimum close focus for the 8x25 should be very similar to your full-size model (which I assume performs rather better). Is it possible you received a faulty item?

Optics Fair at Dunkeld - advice on 10x42s

Did you determine if there was an issue with your Viking bins Delia? I see the contact details for Viking are here : https://vikingoptical.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/vik-repair-form.pdf

    New binos by mid June.

Not clear whether you share your daughter's enthusiasm for the Vortex Diamondback HD 8x42 and Leupold BX-2 10x42? I think you're suggesting (although without the benefit of a side by side comparison) your daughter did not prefer the Nikon Monarch 5 10x42 (old style?) or even the Monarch M7 8x42...

    New binos by mid June.

For your daughter's use a lightweight, wide-angle 8x42 sounds a good choice. And probably for you too given that list of nocturnal birds and interest in keeping weight down. The 8x42s also tend to have more eye relief so often better with spectacles, though seems you haven't noted any issues...

    Identify binoculars

Looks similar to this wide angle 8x22 model : https://www.ebay.com/itm/353524479186 Guess the "K" is a manufacturer mark common to these models : https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/642289-any-idea-who-built-these-binoculars/ https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/326131974693...

Couple of inexpensivies. A wee Zeiss West Germany 6x20B IF binocular at mwclassic. A number of copies of demos of an inexpensive 10x42 roof prism model, the Shearwater SP, in the used equipment section at Naturequest.

New 10x42s wanted. But which ones?

Not sure a harness would entirely address the issue you seem to be describing : tired arms from lifting binocular to eyes and holding it there? Anyways some discussion here on supports and illustrations provided by John A Roberts which may provide useful food for thought ...

New 10x42s wanted. But which ones?

London Camera Exchange Lincoln might be best bet to compare those two Nikon models. Maybe another model to consider trying out for your primary use, if haven't already done so, is the Canon 12x36 IS III. This might be worth a try : https://www.cliftoncameras.co.uk/canon-48hr-test-drive-binoculars

    Binoculars around £1000

Agree with the other guys; if you're prepared to look around a bit and aren't in a hurry you may well find something top drawer that fits. You actually missed this offer just yesterday (assume was genuine).
