    Sykes`s Warbler ?

Brian, Correct, this is not an every day species for Turkey. So I respect experience. In 2021 and 2022 I did 3 weeks trips for photographing these warblers. I only found one, probably two skyke’s together with tens of eastern oliveceaus warblers. In this photo the length of the tail looks...

    Sykes`s Warbler ?

If “hidden” means “shoter”, it fits I. rama since in this species P2 is shorter than P7. Actually the bill is wider at base in rama and close to elaeica in length. There are several collected samples of eastern oliveceaus warbler from eastern turkey, which belongs to elaeica and tamariceti...

    An American vagrant?

Hi, May be so.. since the area is highly industrial. Interesting bird.

    An American vagrant?

How about concentration on anatomical-topographical fetures, instead of only colors? For example; the midle toe (including nail) seems about same size of the tarsus and a bit longer than bill.. (I am not sure nail counts or not) and hind toe seems a bit longer for a little stint (5-7 mm instead...

    An American vagrant?

Scapular patterns of the stint species. Which one is the same with this bird?

    An American vagrant?

I use nikon z9+600mmtcvrs nikkor. This combination allways some boost vibrancy and saturation But never change the colors. If there is yellow on the legs, it is there. Black never changes yellow or something else..

    An American vagrant?

I took this picture on April 2023 in Antalya-Turkey. Tertials of the bird, seems to exeed the tail (as you may know tail should be longer than wing feathers in Temminck’s). Middle toe is about the same length (or longer?) of the bill. Scapular fringes are whitish. Lore length is about half...

    Spotted or Common Sandpiper?

Thanks for the article. Do you think this picture where you can see the upperwing clearly, complies with the moulting strategy you suggest? I see on the left wing, there are two missing flight feathers.

    Spotted or Common Sandpiper?

But the end result is the same. It is agreeable that the bird is an adult but not a juvenile. The moulting of the feathers in autumn results in freshness of the plumage😀

    Spotted or Common Sandpiper?

Thanks Daniel, I do not try the bird to recognize as spotted or not. But I catch a good example to discuss a well known species. That is why I am sharing details that may be helpful to detailed view including me. Actually there are enough information about generally unrecognized subspecies...

    Spotted or Common Sandpiper?

Have you considered A. macularia rava? Formerly common and spotted sandpipers were conspesific. Then divided to two species. After that some autors divide A. macularia as nominate and A. m. rava. But said that differences are minimal, for that reason it is monotipic.. but some autors still...

    Spotted or Common Sandpiper?

A hybrid? A few years ago there was a lesser flamingo in Turkey. Her juvenile was showing both P. ruber & P minor. If we didn’t see the P. minor, the young bird would stay as a suspicious bird. Here is a footage of them on my instagram account:

    Spotted or Common Sandpiper?

I don’t know on which device are you lookin on my pictures, but I see two toned bill on my 12.9 inch Ipad..,I can see (slightly) longer projection since I have circa 20 minutes video of this bird. On some scenes tail projection visible. I took these pictures with my nikon z9+nikon z600mm f4...

    Spotted or Common Sandpiper?

The problem is; there are different illustrations and details for the american vagrant Such that according to owned guidebook anyone can judge this species differently. I can see two toned bill, slightly longer tail (tail projection), drab orange legs and especially bolder rear supercilium (a...
