    Tawny owl - adult or juvenile?

    This picture was taken through my kitchen window this morning (9th June). I've also recently had glimpses of a tawny owl flying about in the wood during the day, maybe the same bird. Are this year's young fully feathered up now, and flying around, or is this an adult bird?

    On a Cumbrian facebook page, someone claims to have heard a cuckoo in Cumbria this week. It seems highly unlikely, especially as all the tagged birds are still in West Africa. Other people are jumping on the thread claiming to have heard one too. They have almost certainly mis-heard a collared...
