    Tardebigge Reservoir and Surrounds

Hi Gert, Yes, surprisingly one pair of grebes hatched two young which were first seen in June, however by the next count in July neither of the chicks were to be seen. I've recorded Goosander but yet to see Goldeneye at the res- perhaps I'll have to get out earlier in future! Chris

    Tardebigge Reservoir and Surrounds

This morning's lacklustre WeBS count was as follows: 18 Mallard 7 Tufted Duck 4 Moorhen 2 Great Crested Grebe 27 Black-Headed Gull 2023 has hardly been a vintage year for WeBS counts due to extremely high water levels coinciding with the core count dates. For the first time in three years I...

    Upton Warren

Great news regarding the reopening of the reserve- whilst the trust has its faults UW will always be special to me as the place where I began birding in earnest and I hope to be back soon. If I remember correctly, the last time I was in a hide on the reserve was back in March 2020 for the...

    Bartley reservoir

Good work finding the ouzel- I haven't been to Waseley in years but if it's anything like Clent at the moment there will be too many people for my liking. Chris

    Bartley reservoir

A trip to Bartley this morning produced another new bird for me at the site- a Wheatear sat on the wall of the dam (excuse the poor record shot). Also 4 Common Sandpiper, singing Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Whitethroat etc. Chris

A Common Sandpiper was along the southern shoreline today- certainly my first of this species in December at the site. Chris

    Bartley reservoir

A visit to the reservoir at midday today produced a single Lapwing on the far shoreline (the water level having dropped) and a Goosander. Suprisingly no Goldeneye were to be seen. Chris

    Bartley reservoir

Canada Goose numbers seemed to peak on 23rd Sep with 116 present. Over the last few days there has only been between 35-50 but this morning 2 Greylag Goose were amongst the flock in the field. Chris

    Bartley reservoir

The reservoir this morning seemed fairly quiet from Scotland Lane, with 4 Great Crested Grebe, 7 Tufted Duck, 32 Mallard and 1 Grey Heron. 7 Cormorant drifted over from the dam and circled but failed to land, eventually heading off towards Frankley. The stubble field above the reservoir opposite...

    Bartley reservoir

6 Shelduck were together on the bank opposite Scotland Lane this morning, and 3 Wigeon were amongst c. 50 Mallard, so autumn definitely seems to have arrived. Chris
