    I agree it looks good for Levaillant's. That said, for any other cisticola, I am reduced to guessing sound adjectives - singing, tinkling, rattling, wailing, squeaky, yodelling, backing-vocal, is-that-an-echo, oddly-gruff-in-the-circumstances, etc. So, please ignore.

    I quite like Wood Pigeons, although they are an absolute blot on the landscape, being so common and intrusive. Why? I think because (a) they make good photo subjects, being so close and approachable [plus somewhat iridescent] and (b) they have that weirdly-shaped pupil.

    Wasn't by any chance with Richard Nowotny, was it? We had a great day with Richard, including Werribee, the You Yangs and several other locations (plus the previous night watching the penguins on the St Kilda breakwater).

    When I visited Lima, Scrub Blackbird was very common in streets and parks, in highly-urban areas (I was mostly in Miraflores), as was W Peruvian Dove. In the interior, Eared Dove was much more likely, but not so in the city. More surprising (to me) was the regular appearance of Harris's Hawk on...

    I believe (but have not witnessed) that there are hummingbird species that only favour islands in rivers.

    Ah... I went with LVB on the basis of (a) abundance (b) strong olive wing-bar and (c) general ignorance. So, the attached would also be BBB? (taken in central Xi'an city). Thank you for the enlightenment!
