Why do Zeiss's alpha level binoculars like the FL and SF have some of the best CA control of any binoculars?

Yes let us know. These are all magnifying optics which have to operate within the laws of physics and so trade-offs and imperfections are inevitable. I think that in general x32s will produce less CA than x42s but optics experts here might disagree. Personally, an optic that produces a bit...

Why do Zeiss's alpha level binoculars like the FL and SF have some of the best CA control of any binoculars?

The worst seems to be on high-contrast edges from white objects in very bright conditions. Try a yacht hull on a sunny day against a dark background. Perhaps the NV is optimised (as its name suggests) for lower-light situations? Anyway I relish the presentation it gives even on sunny days...

Why do Zeiss's alpha level binoculars like the FL and SF have some of the best CA control of any binoculars?

Centring the camera lens on the ocular is pretty straightforward, but testing and then consistently getting the correct ER is much more difficult to achieve. ER can have a significant impact on CA.

Leica Noctivid 8x42 design flaws and review - owners please check

I had one break as well (the mounting) and Leica sent me a new pair free. The plastic seems a little brittle. It's strange to have this oversight on such a nicely designed and built binocular. Having said that, they do work very well before they break!

Why do Zeiss's alpha level binoculars like the FL and SF have some of the best CA control of any binoculars?

I have also noticed that in the NV 8x it is often very bright/white areas that create the most CA. For example, yachts on a very sunny day. But please note my earlier comment about eye positioning. In this case, camera positioning.

Why do Zeiss's alpha level binoculars like the FL and SF have some of the best CA control of any binoculars?

These are interesting images but I think from the 10x NV. Would be interested to see the same comparison for the 8x. I think it will do quite a bit better. Also, you must take great care to get the camera lens in exactly the correct position. The NV is perhaps the most sensitive top tier...

Why do Zeiss's alpha level binoculars like the FL and SF have some of the best CA control of any binoculars?

Yes it's a close call but I ended up with the Leica NV. I'm sure I would have been happy with either. CA in the NV is not as bad as some people like to claim once you get the eye position consistently just right (I use O-rings) and the colours and contrast make up for it. As a current model...

Why do Zeiss's alpha level binoculars like the FL and SF have some of the best CA control of any binoculars?

I agree (and many others have said the same) that the 8x NV is a better overall optic than the 10x. Certainly less CA.

Why do Zeiss's alpha level binoculars like the FL and SF have some of the best CA control of any binoculars?

I like it a lot too, just lacking a bit at the red end of the spectrum otherwise it would be my go-to optic.

Why do Zeiss's alpha level binoculars like the FL and SF have some of the best CA control of any binoculars?

Subjective differences often melt away or become difficult to confirm consistently in such blind tests. I have extensive experience of this using ABX testing in audio from many years ago. Scripting and placebo are powerful psychological effects. I don't mean to say that useful differences...

Leica, Zeiss & Swarovski binoculars compared: A personal report

Yes I agree with all of this! Good choice. I have never tried the EDG 8x42 for any length of time but the quick look I did have reminded me of the NV. I find the CA and eye placement issues interact. It's quite fussy with eye placement but once you can consistently get it just right (both...

Meopta Meostar B1 Plus 10x42 HD..use with glasses?!

With the small and thin glasses that I use when out with bins I just about get the whole FOV on the B1+ 12x50 so I think you will probably be OK. HenRun here (also in Sweden) has come up with a nice trick to replace the eye cups with rubber gaskets that you can get from the DIY store. They fit...

Why are Zeiss so sharp on-axis compared to other binoculars?

I agree HTs are missing red somewhat but if that doesn't matter to you the 8x42 is an excellent glass in all other ways.

Why are Zeiss so sharp on-axis compared to other binoculars?

Oooh, HT, NV and EDG together. Some of my favourites all in one place.
