Super High Pitched Whistle at Night?

I now have a recording of this whistle call, hope someone can ID the bird for me. Wondering if it's possible it could be a Hooded Oriole? Have lots of them here in my yard, but if that's the case, this is the first time I've ever heard one in 10 years have this sort of unusual call. It's a...

Super High Pitched Whistle at Night?

Nope, for sure not a Killdeer. We had tons of Killdeer on our property when I lived in Indiana. Their song pitch is much lower than this 3 note whistle I'm hearing, and I've never heard a Killdeer has this very specific 3 tone whistle.

Super High Pitched Whistle at Night?

Doubt it. This is in the middle of the night. Hearing it after 10:00 pm. Hummingbirds are roosted for the night. I'm not hearing it early in the morning, but more around 10:00 pm to maybe 1:00 am. But, that's the pitch. It's that high. Almost beyond our hearing, I'm surprised I can hear...

Super High Pitched Whistle at Night?

Okay. I am not even sure if it's a bird or maybe a bat? I am hearing this super high pitched whistle that sounds like a taxi or dog whistle at night. Sometimes it's repeated twice, most times it's a single: Fee-oh-WEE Sound. Just like you were calling your dog or a taxi. Three toned...

Trying to ID a Particular Bird Call

Yup, just read that in my awesome bird app: the only New World bird in an Old World group. Very cool. My app also mentioned these birds are more often heard than seen, as they tend to stay in the bushes in cover. So now determined to catch a glimpse! Here is a nice little YouTube video of...

Trying to ID a Particular Bird Call

Sure does, thank you! I will be on the watch for them. They are kind of plain brown birds, but that wren tail flick thing going on. I have a LOT of Bewick's Wrens in my yard, and bet I thought that was what I was seeing. Bewick's smaller, fatter, and shorter tails. Thanks so much, I will be...

Trying to ID a Particular Bird Call

I keep hearing this bird's song out of the field behind my house. I'm in N. San Diego county, in the hills about 6 miles from the ocean, in a rather rural area. I think maybe? it's one of our warblers, but not sure. I've attached a short recording. Hope you all can hear it clearly enough...

ID A Bird Song from Southern California (San Diego Area)

Oh brother. Again, I think I answered my own question. I believe this is a juvenile Black Headed Grossbeak. I get them occasionally at my feeder if I put out dried mealworms or fruits & suet. I had an adult male at my feeder this morning. So, that means I had a nest in my yard most likely...

ID A Bird Song from Southern California (San Diego Area)

Thanks, Mike. Now, a very sad ID request. I hope someone will see this photo in this message thread, if not, I'll repost to a separate message thread. Yesterday, again, while working in my upstairs office, I heard a terrible bang on my upstairs laundry room window. Even the cat jumped up and...

ID A Bird Song from Southern California (San Diego Area)

Mystery Solved o:) Okay, I have solved the mystery myelf. When I pulled into the garage today, after going to the gym, as I got out of the car, I could hear this "mystery" bird singing his 2-3 note song, again. I stepped back and saw one of our many lovely male Hooded Orioles perched up at...

ID A Bird Song from Southern California (San Diego Area)

I'm to the forum, so glad I found it! I have a question I'm hoping someone can assist me with. I was working upstairs in my office today, and down in my front yard, I heard an unusual bird call. I was able to record it on my iPhone, and I've attached the .mp3 file to see if anyone might be...
