    Nikon ED50A breakage

Why should you try epoxy remover if the scope works as it is? Hermann

    Nikon ED50A breakage

I met a guy a few years ago whose ED50 had also broken apart (after he dropped it). Happened on a birding trip abroad. He had taped both sides together. That worked so well that upon returning he had only added a few more layers of tape. Looked a bit funny, that scope. But it worked just...

    Pocket binoculars

Which Nikon 10x25 have you got? Because if you've got the 10x25 HG-L you don't "need" to upgrade at all. It's still one of the very best compact binoculars on the market. Hermann

    Best Binocular for...

No. Not as far a I can see. when the seeing is bad, it's bad. The only exception is misty or foggy weather: In such conditions binoculars with a yellow image may look better, for instance some military binoculars. Hermann

    Best Binocular for...

The "glare and mirage" you're mentioning seems me to refer to atmospheric conditions. No binocular can do anything about atmospheric conditions. See above: When the "seeing" is bad, there's nothing any binocular can do about that. Hermann

Any "compact scopes" that you like?

This is my experience as well. The big scopes are more comfortable to use, especially at higher magnifications, and they work better in low light. They also allow higher magnifications. But in good to decent light and at low to medium magnifications they work just fine. I fully agree with your...

    Advice on mini-spotting scope.

50mm with 40x ... That's difficult. The only scope that fits the bill is AFAIK the Nikon ED50 with the 13-40x zoom. But 40x is a lot for a scope that small, especially for terrestrial use. I find I get the best views if I limit the magnification to ~33x (1.5mm exit pupil). And the Nikon zooms...

    *Really* large rainguards for binoculars?

Thanks, Kimmo. Even that may be too small, with the eyecups turned down I'll need more something like 52-53mm. I reckon I'll have to make one myself. Hermann

    Advice on mini-spotting scope.

You really need to supply some more information if you want advice tailored to your needs. Just a few questions off the top of my head: Is this your first scope, or do you already have one? If so, which scope? In what kind of environment do you want to use it? (Lakes, coast, open countryside...

    Advice on mini-spotting scope.

There are plenty of threads on small scopes, some of them very recent. Try the forum search for starters. Hermann

    *Really* large rainguards for binoculars?

No idea. Come to think of it, it's probably easiest to get out my leatherworking tools and make one from leather. I've got no idea though why some manufacturers sell their binoculars with traditional rubber eyecups with rainguards that don't fit when you turn the eyecups down. What are they...

    10x42L vs Nikon MHG

In that case you'd probably be better off with a stabilized binocular. As an aside: I tried the Thinktank utility belt some years ago. didn't work for me. Seems like I'm a backpack person ... I use monopods on a regular basis (mostly with a Nikon ED50) whenever I want to keep the weight down as...

    *Really* large rainguards for binoculars?

That's a good idea! I may ask around if one of my friends over here could print me a rainguard, that's easier than ordering from the US.
