Just a single shot here, taken with the flash at dusk. Assumed a pigeon at first, but buttonquail seems a better fit to the black primaries etc. Welcome any thoughts!

    Mystery distant challenge, Gambia

On a tree top by the river at Tendaba camp, Gambia, Nov. '17. Tough I know. Pretty sure about the red on top of head (if was CA in the camera then it would be visible on the leaves too). But only birds with red on top of the head seem to be woodpeckers, and this looks passerine.

    Bird of prey, Gambia

Thanks chaps - that seems to make sense, though it looks darker on the underwing than I'd expect. Probbaly just a lighting thing.

    Bird of prey, Gambia

Buggered if I can figure this out. Terrible picture, sorry. I think I did a 'brighten shadows' thing in photoshop on one of them. Was taken somewhere like Georgetown (Janjanbureh) - somewhere up river, maybe further. November 2017

    Rosefinch, near Lukla, Nepal, Mar'17

Hi Andy - thanks for the quick reply! I also wondered that, but the male shows a much plainer breast in the book. However would this be explained by it not being in full breeding plumage?

Warbler, near Lukla, Nepal - Mar'17

Two duff shots - greenish? Single wing bar, biggish (orange/yellow -but not black) bill, head pattern suggest it to me....
