Samsung Android Galaxy phone, old or new?

I use the galaxy ultra s21 and I am happy with it. The pro mode of the galaxy camera app also let you choose the lens you wish to use. Open camera is also good. I tried the phoneskope camera app but it didn't let me choose the lens.

    HR80 ED vs Kowa 823

I own an HRGAED80 and one of my birding pals owns an 823. Once I looked through it, I decided to upgrade and got an 88. Wider and more immersive fov, softer focus, etc. The HRGAED80 is still really good, the main difference was in relation to the fov.

    Kowa 99 Update?

Good question...I also wonder if people would be able to puck up a cherry vs non cherry in normal use conditions, or the difference is only noticeable in lab-conditions.

    Kowa 99 Update?

I had the same dilemma and ended up buying the 88 due to its lower weight. It is still very bright and I think it will only make a difference in very poor light conditions, although the 88 at 25 is marginally brighter than the 99 at 30 what may be an advantage. Starting at x25 let me cover more...

    Great service from Kowa

Just to highlight the great service received from Kowa Germany servicing my scope. I contacted them to learn about the process and they were very quick and clear to come back to me. I had to ship my scope to them and received it back exactly 3 weeks later. The updates were very timely and they...

    Basque Country birding?

Hi all, Going on a family holiday to Basque Country and I am planning to do some birding. We will spend a few days south west of Bilbao and another few days in the area between Vitoria and Pamplona. I am researching at the moment, any tips, local knowledge, etc is welcome. Thanks G

    New Eyepiece - SDL4

V3 has a wider fov so I expect the v4 to have that too. Optically, I agree, no perceivable difference.

    Opticron Tele Adapter

This says a lot... On absence of meaningful specs....take the performance of your scope, divide fov by 2 and brightness by 2...that is ball parlk what you get, although for the moon that may not be an issue. Some extenders do a decent job in high end scopes under the right conditions. Usually...

    Kowa Prominar TSN-88 vs 66 vs 773?

I use the st125 with the va5 for my 88a and like the setup a lot. I do hook my backpack from it if it is windy.

Any "compact scopes" that you like?

My first scope was an Opticron MM3 60 (1st gen) and it became my travel scope. Performance is good enough for its size, very light and it fits easily in my carry on.

Five days birding trip in Extremadura

You can do half day in Trujillo and farms around it, full day for the steppes, probably add half day to Arrocampo, if you go to the hides that are further out and surrounding areas and another half day in Monfrague.

Digiscoping adapter(s) for Samsung Galaxy s23 Ultra ?

@David55 Do you mind me asking what phone camera is giving you best results? The 1x or the 3x (assume it is either)?

    Phone adapter opinion please

I have been using the Vanguard Universal adapter, and it works very well. Recently I upgraded to the Smartoscope and it is in a different level (also price wise...). Very impressed.

Upgrade 128 RC head or no?

Similar to you, I recently bought a Kowa TSN-88a and a Carbon tripod that weights 1.3k (ST125) with a Sirui va-5 head, which is just over 500g (buttery smooth!)...very happy with the set up. Very lightweight (priority) and when I need extra stabilization I hang my backpack from the tripod hook...

Eyepieces for MM3 GA (non ED)

This was my first scope, paired with an SDLv2 eyepiece. IQ was very decent and it is now my "travelling" scope. I would try to get one of these or an HDF, which people claim its performance is similar. I am also a binocs person (it frustrates me to have to carry the scope and tripod, etc) and...
