    Lekking Great Snipe in Sweden

Is it still possible to find Great Snipe lekking in Sweden and are any of these sites in southern Sweden? I’m visiting the country for a few days (between Gothenburg and Varnamo) in June and would appreciate any recommendations of sites to visit. Regards Mark

Have you seen something to suggest it might be a hybrid? I see nothing (yet) to suggest that. The flank feathers are adult type, so it is moulting out of eclipse, which would explain the narrow white vertical breast stripe. The reduced yellow around the face and apparent lack of white line by...

    Woodpeckers in Belgium

Thanks. We went to Park De Hope Veluwe and saw Middle Spotted and Lesser Spotted (Great Spotted and Green) plus we heard Black Woodpecker.

    Woodpeckers in Belgium

Is anyone able to point me toward a site in Belgium (or Calais area), or even into Holland, which is reliable for Middle Spotted and Black Woodpecker (for later this month). All advise is welcome.

Here’s another Caspian-type taken at west end on Saturday morning. Initially I was expecting it to be X90A, but when it walked out of the water I noticed it wasn’t ringed. Another bird with a hazelnut colour-eyed, and one that in a distant roost might likely be called a Caspian Gull. I suspect...

Two gull IDs - Cambridgeshire, UK

The long white tip to p10 and structure of bird and bare parts look good for Caspian Gull. However, to be 100% sure (and rule out a hybrid) then better images would be needed. Caspian Gull isn't that rare in Cambs nowadays, and no longer requires a description to be submitted - the bigger issue...

    White Stork

Probably one of the free-flying birds from the private collection at Oldhurt farm/zoo.

No, none of the locals know anything about this. We only saw the usual birds. Do you know who saw it and were all three on view at the same time?

Thanks Matthew - as Mark Golly said in the Twitter comments - currently, this bird would pass muster as a nouveau-Caspian (some observers are more lenient about the mixing of genes than others), but its not a classic Pontic Gull. One thing is for sure, as Caspian's continue to march westwards as...

    Grafham Water

A number of experienced Gull watchers have commented on the Twitter thread also expressing opinion that the bird is very likely not a pure Caspian Gull. These can be seen here Another educational bird.

I assume this bird, from the 18th, is the same bird? IMHO, there are a few things which suggest this isn't a Caspian Gull. The tip of p10 is usually pure white (lacking the small black tip), but more importantly is doesn't show the pale inner web to the tongue of p10 on underside...

Thanks Matthew - do you have any images of the open upper wing? I don't think its a pure Yellow-legged Gull, but it just doesn't feel like a Caspian Gull to me (but it may well be one)
