Help with GoPro Hero 9 and Rode VideoMic Pro Setup

Hi Frazeradventures! Nothing wrong with using the stuff you already have! No cringe! I never use a Go pro as I only record sound, but I will try some answer to the best of my ability. I think your problem is not the devices you're using but what you are trying to record. Recording nature...

Compact recording device for long term birding trip

If you have to travel light, want to use your Iphone as a recorder and have a budget of around 200 euro, I have to agree with Ruff-Leg for a small Rode mic compatible with an Iphone. Any shotgun will cost you more than you would like to spend. I think you should get de best small Rode mic...

    Sound recorder

In my opinion, in Canada, the Zoom H1n is too expensive for the value, as you can find Zoom H4n pro used for this price. But : In my opinion, the pro id the price for the quality! You will have a lot of fun for not a lot of money. The problem is that if you like recording birds, you will hit a...

    Sound recorder

Hi AGDQ! As a new recorder (less than two years, but... a lot of time in the field), here's my two cents : -I started with a use Zoom H4n. Like the H4n pro, there is a stereo mic integrated and two XLR for extern mic. Not a good start as the pre-amp are pretty noisy. I found a Beyerdynamic MCE...

Your opinion on my shotgun mic?

I investigated parabolic mic a lot, but they are way to expensive in Canada (they come from USA, shipping + tax). I've done a DIY set up. It's cool but as I take sound in forest with some hike involved, shotgun is way better for me.

Your opinion on my shotgun mic?

Thanks for your expert opinion, it confirm my terrain result. The rode ntg4+ is on sale on amazon canada, I just break the bank. Damn this forum is expensive!:p But with a zoom F3 and a rode ntg4+, I should have result that match my motivation and effort!

Your opinion on my shotgun mic?

Hi! I'm getting more and more serious in birdrecording as I love this hobby (about 2 years now). I am getting some good recording, but they are all quite low as I hesitate to up the gain. I have difficulty accepting floor noise. I know I have to accept some level of floor noise, but in the same...

Somebody try the Wildtronics pro mini?

Thank you all for your awesome answers. After the answer of Jon Bryant, I think I will put the buying of the parabolic mic on hold. As I'm canadian, the cost including shipping and a possible surprise tax at the border is quite expensive and I'm not sure enough of the value versus result. BUT...

Somebody try the Wildtronics pro mini?

Hi fellow birds recordist, After a little more then a year of recording with my Zoom H5 and a Shotgun mic (Beyerdynamics MCE 86 II) I'm looking to upgrade to parabolic. Sadly, the problem with parabolic is to carry it. I found the Wildtronics pro mini at an affordable price, and I am looking to...

Need help to upgrade my recording game

Thank you all for your awesome comments! Quick update, I found a used Zoom h5, so I updated to it and I'm not quite satisfied. The pre-amp are definitively better, but the floor-noise is a very big issue. I will check for Reaper! Might be of some help!

    A very lucky day

Yesterday, I went birding to capture some nice birds sound in a very good spot and what a surprise! A few hundred Snow Goose chose the lake near my bird spot to rest on the road to the north! I got a some nice recording ( ) and a cool picture! (keep in mind that I'm not a photographer, my Nikon...

My soundcloud, if you want to comment!

Hi! I'm really new to bird recording, but this is my soundcloud, if you want to give my some advice on my work. I'm using a Zoom h4n with a Beyerdynamic shotgun mic. Sometime, it's only the shotgun mic in mono, sometimes it's the H4n in stereo plus the shotgun mic. I'm applying some noise...

Need help to upgrade my recording game

Thank you all for your warm welcome! From my different tests, the noise come from the H4n. It's not that terrible, but in the past few weeks, I got enough heart breaking missed opportunity for looking somewhere else! I'm getting better and better with Audacity, so I can patch some of the...

Need help to upgrade my recording game

Hi everyone, first post here! I'm starting with bird recording and I'm falling in love! Just to test the water before buying equipment, I started with a used Zoom h4n, a Beyerdynamic MCE 86 II shotgun microphones and a Proaim blimp. Lots of fun but the Zoom h4n is a very noisy recorder and it's...
