    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

Just had the pleasure of a weekend birding at various sights in Norfolk and Suffolk, with a friend who lives down there. The trip produced 5 "Lifers" for me: Parrot Crossbill (flock of 18) - Waveney Forest Common Crane (2) - Lakenheath Velvet Scoter - Holkham Rough Legged Buzzard - Holkham Smew...

    Your first bird of 2014

As always, Goldfinch on the garden Nijer feeder. Still one of my favourite birds even though I see them everyday.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Had 4 regular juvenile Goldfinch for about a week now, on the Niger feeder. Brazen mob of Starlings with 8-10 young 'uns in tow, meaning seed feeder needs filling at least once a day. Coal Tit just paid a lone visit but the Chaffinch pair seem to have abandoned our feeders (maybe the constant...

    King of the Garden?

We have very infrequent visits from a Jay, which put in an appearance this morning. At the time the feeders where quite busy with several Goldfinch, Greenfinch and Great Tit but they all scarpered as soon as the Jay arrived. Makes him the King I think!

Do You Birdwatch even when you are not actually Birding?

I drive past a Lapwing rooftop site everyday at least once a day and every single day it draws part of my attention away from where it should be. So yes constantly birding though not necessarily bird watching.

    Too cheap binoculars?

I bought a pair of Jessops 10x42 on offer for 50quid earlier this year. While I'm no expert, they more than meet my needs without being the best bins around. I like to cover a lot of ground walking while birding and find these reasonably comfortable to walk with round my neck for a few hours...

    Ow Do

Just a quick intro having just joined. Been visiting the website for a while now and finally decided to participate. I am a 50 year old relatively new birder, having only in this last year or so seriously rekindled my interest from my younger days. Have recently enjoyed trips to Minsmere...
