    Two Falcons - Isreal

Thanks Tom, I might have guessed that you'd nail my cheeky quiz immediately. :-) Incidentally, I'm thinking 2nd calendar year is most likely for the Eurasian Hobby, simply because even though the 'trousers' are virtually hidden and undertail coverts are in shadow, I would expect to see rather...

    Merlin? UK

Greetings! Very nice series of silhouettes of Merlin in action - thanks for sharing!

    Two Falcons - Isreal

Greetings! Stumbled across this image on the web which was captured in Isreal in early October 2016. Any thoughts, with reasoning, on the identification and age of these two falcons please? Thanks in advance.

    Gibraltar - Bird of prey?

This photo was apparently taken yesterday from the cockpit of a light aircraft during its approach to land at Gibraltar International Airport. Any thoughts please?

Harrier ID from Dubai, UAE, 14.10.2016.

Greetings! Apologies for the late contribution to this thread. Quite a challenging set of images but I think Peter captured just enough information to identify this bird of prey as an adult male Lesser Kestrel - see photos attached.

Bird of Prey ID: Northern Spain

Structure, proportions and plumage all point clearly to Common Buzzard. The environs and choice of perch are helpful too.

    BOP Manyara TZ

Good captures - thanks for sharing! Photos 2 and 3 look good for Wahlberg's Eagle (Hieraaetus wahlbergi).

Help with IDing. Juvenile Savanna Hawk?

Nice photo. Looks like a juvenile Yellow-headed Caracara (Milvago chimachima).

    Falcon, Malta

Happy New Year to all BF contributors, readers and moderators, This falcon looks as if it was in a bit of a hurry, so well done to Gladiator96 for capturing such an interesting and informative series of images. It's a pity that the bird was looking directly away from the camera in the first...

Comment by 'FalconBirder' in media 'Australian Kestel'

Nice capture Rookery. Sorry for the late contribution but for the record this is a Brown Falcon (Falco berigora), not a Nankeen Kestrel. In addition to various structural differences, the underside of any age or gender of Kestrel is much paler than the falcon in your excellent photo. Keep...

Unidentified bird - Exmoor, Somerset, UK

Thanks guys, The bill appears to be relatively short and straight which I think rules out any bird of prey. Feral Pigeon was my best guess too Tom. Any other suggestions please?

Unidentified bird - Exmoor, Somerset, UK

Greetings, Can anyone identify this bird please? Photographed by a friend who was on Exmoor, Somerset in September last year. He described 6 appearing from high in the sky and dropping like very noisy torpedoes and landing on the ground out of sight. Only one photo captured - attached...

    Accipiter in UAE today

Thanks Tom, Lou and Omar for your considered contributions. Responding in reverse order: Omar - I agree that the reddish colouration on the legs is likely traces of blood from a prey item. In fact, the legs and feet appeared surprisingly bright yellow when the hawk was perched and viewed...

    Accipiter in UAE today

Hi Tom, Thanks for the quick and helpful reply. Agree with age - juvenile (now second calendar year) hawk. Surely the features you mention - barred breast and yellow eye - don't rule out Shikra do they?
