Yellow-legged or Lesser black-backed Gull?- Hastings, UK

Thanks Lou for your input, this was the only shot in flight , unfortunately doesn't show the full wing so not sure if useful or not?

Yellow-legged or Lesser black-backed Gull?- Hastings, UK

Thanks Alexander, I've not come across shin colour as a diagnostic factor in any gulls before, do you have any links as to where I can look at this please, seems very interesting. I wouldn't get to caught up in differences in colour and shade variations as I have had to process and add contrast...

Yellow-legged or Lesser black-backed Gull?- Hastings, UK

Taken today 01/08/23. It's about time I properly got to grips with these gulls and I need your help. My thoughts are that contrasty head and clear mask and a pretty heavy bill whiteish belly and undertail point to YLG, but I'm really not confident enought yet to call it myself. If this is YLG...

Replacing twist up eyecup on older 62 apo-televid

The twist up eye cup on my scope cracked, I have managed to get a replacement but can’t seem to see how it fits over the 3 bearings. Anyone know of this requires special tools and hence repair or is it user serviceable and I’m missing something. thanks

    Bird call

Hi, can’t seem to place to following call any ideas, my only guess is Marsh Tit which I’m familiar with but not a call I’ve heard before. It’s the repeated tu tu tu ... tu tu... tu tu tu call. Uk East Sussex, Broadleaved Woodland Thanks Jamie

request advice upgrading from bridge camera to DSLR

My 2c after reading the replies. Even with the most expensive cameras and lenses if you have a big distance been you and the bird and zoom right in on the image you won't get good details, it will always look soft as you are looking at a fraction of the available pixels. For Id work a higher...

    Bins to complement photography?

I have 8x32 ultravids and 10x25 ultravids. 8x32 are amazing quality as are 10x25 but there is a trade of in pupil relief and therefore fov in favour of lightness and compactness. I actually get more use out of the 10x25 as they go with me everywhere including in my camera bag when I'm out with...

Convinced this was a wood sandpiper while photographing, but maybe tricked by the light and longish supercillium and its a Green? Comments welcome.
