    Norfolk birding

Well you’ve picked a great time to visit! I apologise as didn’t realise you haven’t been before and aren’t to know the demise of certain birds. Both reserves will delight you anyway so enjoy finding what you can. I have enjoyed many occasions with Montys and Orioles - such a shame they no longer...

    Norfolk birding

I would say good luck! My understanding is that sadly Oriole and Montys are lost as breeding birds (and folks wouldn’t add them here if they were not). Turtle Dove hangs on and Titchwell often gets a mention around the car park in terms of birds “available to all”. Corn Bunting used to be good...

British Big Year - 2016. 398 so far.

He didn’t go about it to tell others - he did it for himself. He’s quiet and unassuming. His effort was “outed” by others (I’m not naming here). I doubt at this stage he’s going to want to go back and document everything - he was even asked for photos of each bird to “prove” he saw them etc...

I know Mark personally and it’s no “urban myth”. Is he obliged to publish something he did for himself? And have it pulled apart, vetted and commented on?

    willow or marsh tit norfolk

I also think its fair to say Willow has virtually gone from Norfolk - I am sure Tim told me its a description sp. now.

    EDG hinge tension...how's yours?

I have a second hand pair of Nikon HG 8x42 out of warranty - mine suddenly became very loose and so as I have other bins I decided to send them off to Nikon. They emailed me a postage sticker etc, just had to package up. They have sent an estimate back including postage at £55. I did reply...

Really sorry to hear this Penny, what a thoroughly nice chap your Father was. Never too much trouble to discuss birds in any way shape or form. A testing time for you and the family I am sure but bask in the knowledge he did what he loved - many don't get that same opportunity. Lots of love.

He's a fellow Derbyshire lad and was keeping things very low key for a while. But saw him at Spurn recently and he acknowledged this massive attempt was "out there". Its been a fantastic year for him obviously and during it he's moved house and kept working.......!

Yes it looks like it as seen on 8th June. Dave retweeted the info first, amongst others and I guess BGuides picks it up from there somewhere. Would be nice if still around.......

Several places Stuart. The easiest will be Carr Vale, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust - ten mins from Chesterfield at Junction 29a M1. Just google it. Well worth a visit anyway - Glossy Ibis recently and local birders on site. Also Poolsbrook Marsh at the side of Poolsbrook Country Park which is...
