    Good numbers this morning 28 moths 12 species . New for my garden , Foxglove Pug and Barred Yellow .plus 4 Garden Carpets , 2 Willow Beauties ,2 Green Pugs , 6 Pale Mottled Willow , 5 Heart and Dart , 1 Light Emerald , 2 White Ermine , 1 Buff Ermine , 2 Light Brown Apple Moths and 1 Yellow Shell .

    The Ladybird thread

    Encouraging signs at my local Nature reserve in Maple Cross , Herts , this morning .Lots of native Ladybirds , 20+ 2 spot , 12 ,7 spot, 2 ,14 spot , 2 Cream spot ,1 , 10 spot . Much more than recent years .Still lots of Harlequins of course.

    Broadbill has black bands on the wings , a black mark on the neck and the bill is short and partially covered in feathers and a much shorter tail.

    Nice capture Paux , but this isn’t a Green Broadbill , it looks like a female Blue-winged Leafbird . Chloropsis moluccensis

    A few hours to kill in Madrid.

    I have got a few hours after being dropped off at Madrid Airport , after a tour . Can anyone tell me of any decent birding sites near the airport ? I don't want to go far in case i miss my flight , decent parks ect .

    Which small moths rest with wings wide open, semicircle?

    The small semi-circular moth is probably — Twenty-plumed moth —-.Alucita hexadactyla . The one in the photo is a geometrid of some sort , I can’t really be more specific , maybe a Pug moth.
