    I have had quite a good spring and have reached 208 on my life list. Before this spring it had sat at 201 for almost a year. All of the new birds were added right here within about 50 miles of Charlotte.

    Finally got a chance to get out yesterday after a very hectic couple of weeks. Was a little slow, but did get one bird for my year list, which was also a lifer: 101. Canada warbler (life #209)

    Best April bird

    Red-cockaded woodpecker, April 18 at Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge. Runner-up would probably be the yellow-bellied flycatcher at the same location.

    This morning I ran across a pair of house wrens busily carrying nesting material into a cavity on the underside of a large tree limb. Also saw a couple of Canada goose pairs with young.

    2006 Nesting season

    Wednesday morning (3 days ago) I saw a brown thrasher on the nest. That same afternoon saw yellow-crowned night herons nesting. Have seen robins also nesting, but no hatchlings seen yet.
