    How many bird books have you got?

    a tad shy of 200 strictly bird books. and maybe around another 200 or so other natural history titles--reptiles, amphibians, butterflies, mammals, plants, geology, etc. as well, i seem to have a fair amount of periodicals and journals. seems i'm always picking up one thing or another...

    theodore cross

    the author and bird photographer theodore cross had died. his most recent book "waterbirds" (norton) is said to be the book that audubon would have done if he had a camera. he was 86.

    recommendations for a US field guide

    What was your first bird book?

    first was zim's golden guide. still have it and look at it most everyday. though my main guide now is nat geo. i also had a big book on waterfowl which i no longer have any idea the location of said. but i loved that book as a lad.

    ducks

    just thought to make some action on this patch. the ducks are nice this time of year. great meadows in concord. coots(not really ducks i guess), ringnecks, green wings, ruddy, wigeons, etc.! pb grebe too. black scoters (and ruddies) at chestnut hill. i love this time of year.
