    Choosing 8x32 vs 7x42 vs 8x25

So I ended up taking the 8x32 Zeiss Conquests and Curio 7x21. The larger Zeiss were much better on the boat, easier to use. Compared against the Captain’s Steiner 7x50 infinitely focused the picture was much nicer but of course you have to faff focusing. Lowlight the Steiner were better. I would...

    Choosing 8x32 vs 7x42 vs 8x25

Love the new-to-me 8x32 conquests. Seem ideal, fairly compact, rubber armour, waterproof, great view and easier to use than the 7x21 Curio (I got instead of the 8x20 Ultravid) or the 8x25 victory. And second hand is a great bonus as I won’t have to be so uber careful with them. 3 compact sizes...

    Choosing 8x32 vs 7x42 vs 8x25

Would that be better than a 8x25 victory pocket for my intended use? I like the small size.

    Choosing 8x32 vs 7x42 vs 8x25

I think IS is adding complexity and electronics to a device that could be splashed with salt water, and also pushibg the price up. The damage on a boat would most likely be from getting dropped on the deck or sliding around, if it happens.

    Choosing 8x32 vs 7x42 vs 8x25

I think 7x50 is too specialised a size since I don’t have my own boat. 7x42, 8x42 7x32 etc will find uses off the boat aswell.

They certainly seem appropriate. How is the the image though? It says it has Bak-4 glass and I heard that is not used in high quality binoculars. But of course that could be false.

I better go to some optics shops and have a look.

No I hadn’t considered it, I didn’t see any on my internet research! I will have another look.

    Choosing 8x32 vs 7x42 vs 8x25

Leica 5m waterproof, combined with a floating strap, probably as good as it gets. Maybe a less expensive pair would be better. The risk in borrowing someone else’s binoculars on a boat is that they end up damaged and this could lead to animosity, especially on a small boat, can’t be falling out...

    Choosing 8x32 vs 7x42 vs 8x25

Thank you. It’s not an opportunity I have had before and maybe not again, so I want to make the most of it. Because of the movement of the boat, I read it will make viewing difficult. But I don’t really know if that is true. There is a pair of used UV 7x42 HD on auction site, but the seller...

    Choosing 8x32 vs 7x42 vs 8x25

Great thoughts everyone, thank you. The boat is a sailing 40’ catamaran in the Bahamas, and we may stop at some islands but mostly be away from ports. I will definitely bring my 8x25 VP. And ask to use the captain’s binoculars. Depending on the changing weather conditions, there could be some...

    Choosing 8x32 vs 7x42 vs 8x25

Hi, I am hoping for some advice on purchasing my first decent binoculars. I have to admit I am not a bird watcher but I like to travel and I’m a nature lover. I’m 32 M. Normally I like to travel very light with just hand luggage at 10kg, and have bought my first decent binos Leica UV 8x20 and...
