    North Korea Bins

Any ideas what model binoculars those both are? I will avoid political commentary but curious. https://s2.yimg.com/nn/fp/rsz/042714/images/smush/kim-jong-un_635x250_1398571711.jpg

I wanted to love the EL 8x32 SV

As has been said before the 8x32 format is generally a compromise. I've owned and extensively used the 8.5x42 original and SV, the 8x32 original and SV and the 10x42 SV. I now actually keep (at the moment0 the 8x32 SV and the 10x42 SV due to the separation of functions. The 8x32 SV is a vast...

Is this a good deal...Pentax scope...

I've had both. I do think you'd like the ED version better but the Nikon is built like a tank. The PF is nice. Some of the 20-60 eyepieces were dogs. Your price reflects a decent premium for the ep. Try to see if it's the one with the good eye relief and suits you well. It has been a long time...

    7x binocular expectations.

It sounds like only a Leica HD 7x42 Ultravid or EDG 7x42 would fit the bill. I love my 7x42 Hawthornes but they won't pass the CA test for you.

WHich has better optics: NEW SLC 8x42 (HD) or Late model EL (NOT SV)

To be clear - comparing binoculars at this level is like comparing diamonds. There is always a difference but degrees of difference can be subtle. For me many of the differences are discernible. It's not a judgment against any particular one if that is how it's taken - I wouldn't kick any of...

WHich has better optics: NEW SLC 8x42 (HD) or Late model EL (NOT SV)

What year is that EL (or maybe first two digits of serial if willing to share?)? I would concur that the earlier, slow focus ELs had an inferior view to the later non-SV ELs. But I always found the 42s to have excellent but not perfect CA control.

32mm vs 42mm roofs and upgrading binoculars

The diff in 32mm and 42mm is significant. Many people will use pupil dilation and other factors to derive that in practice there is very little difference, but I've been out in the field in horrible, dark weather, from o'dark30 to sundown and the 42mm diff is significant. You are at a high...

    WB vs SV EL advantages?

The SV has significantly better CA control. The diff in my view is more dramatic in the 8x32 because the CA was borderline bad on the old one. The 8.5x42 was always pretty darn good. Still the SV will be less CA. The sharp image is really amazing. The SV has the green covering on the barrels...

    Leupold 7x42 Hawthornes Gets a A+ !

I'm going to go so far as to say these are future classics. They're well made, with great optics, made in Japan and by a well known company. What's not to like? They aren't as glamorous as some bins but then neither were the 8x30E or 8x32 SE when they were widely available.

Nippon Kogaku 7X35 CF Porro Needs Tighter Diopter Eyepiece Adjustment?

Get a thick o-ring at the local hardware store.

Mint Nippon Kogaku 7X50 Mikron Dilema???

Use it and take care of it. Any reason to think it should be in a museum? We're all just borrowing our possessions from their future holders. Use it in good health.

    Low Cost Binoculars?

It's never too late - good for you. The Nikon Action EX is good - I would completely avoid the non-EX. The offer of the EXPS is a good one - I'd consider it seriously!

    Seasickness medication recomendations

Exactly - different strokes for different folks. Bonine, Dramamine and even ginger are the products to beat. Only Dramamine works for me. Bonine does nothing. For child, it's the opposite. An ounce of prevention - as said take whichever you do before the trip and keep eyes on the horizon and at...

    Ultravid, you almost complete me.

I found the pre-HD 8x32 UV destroyed the original 8x32 EL (with direct comparison). Well maybe a slight exaggeration but quite clearly superior. HD to SV - I have not had the opportunity to compare. I expect the pre-HD UV would be on par w the SV, maybe slightly edged out by the SV. The 8x32 UV...

Why are you keeping your 7x binoculars?

I suspect the reason is similar to why one would keep their Prius rather than a gas guzzling muscle car. It does exactly what they need. Why it doesn't matter much - I took my 7x42 out the other day for a shorebird chase. Well wife had 7x42 and I had the 8x32. We were looking at Western...
