    Jackdaws feeding on hogweed stems

I was in Tintagel yesterday. As well as feeding on leftovers from our picnic, I saw a Jackdaw pecking on a broken off stem of hogweed or similair. Anyone know what it was after? My guess is seeds or insects.

    Birding in Fairfield Connecticut

I'm visiting my sister in Fairfield, Connecticut next April. I'd be grateful for any suggestions of good birding places in that area. Atomic Elk

    December butterfly

Just popped out to do a bit of lunch time Christmas shopping and saw a Peacock butterfly go past me and into a sofa shop! (Paris Street, Exeter). Never seen one so late - or is it just that I haven't been paying attention? Atomic Elk

    Stork in Somerset

From another look at the map and a quick Google, that sounds more like it. It's the Burton Pynsent Monument and it is in about the right area. Thanks for this, chaps.

    Stork in Somerset

I've now had a look at streetmap.co.uk - it seems I must have been mistaken about the Wellington Monument - it IS beyond Taunton - sorry folks!

    Stork in Somerset

No, I'd travelled from London Paddington and got off at Taunton - last stop had been Castle Carey. I could be wrong about the Wellington Memorial, but it's the only thing of its type that I know of in the area. It was on the left hand side when facing the direction of travel.

    Stork in Somerset

Thanks Darrell; For clarification I should say that the train was approaching Taunton from the London direction. The nearest obvious landmark I saw, a few minutes later, was the Wellington memorial column thingy. AE

    Stork in Somerset

A belated posting this, but I saw a stork in a field from a train approaching Taunton on Monday (25th July), at about 7.00 pm ish. Anyone heard of stork sightings in the area? Could it have been an escape? AE

    A couple from last night

Thanks guys. Just regular egg packaging, Andrew. My sister in law lives on a farm with 3,000 free range chickens, so getting packaging isn't a problem! Sorry the photo of no 1 isn't so good. However I had quite a number of heart and dart come in and they didn't seem to resemble photo 1...

    A couple from last night

Hope this works - just got my first digital camera, and this is the first time I've done an attachment. Anyway, ID help appreciated on a couple that came to my trap last night.

    Greek Lizard ID

Thanks guys - Brian's link most impressive. Unfortunately none of the lizards menitioned match my recollection of it. Should also have said that it seemed to be very smooth rather than scaly. AE
