Compact Camera Suggestions? Upgrading from Canon PowerShot SX720 HS

First serious play with the Sony. I think it'll do for me...🤗 Andy.

Compact Camera Suggestions? Upgrading from Canon PowerShot SX720 HS

Thank you. Referenced prior to and after purchase. Essential settings dialed in but still plenty of questions to be answered and I can see this getting plenty of return visits. 😉 Andy.

Compact Camera Suggestions? Upgrading from Canon PowerShot SX720 HS

A massive thank you to all for all your thoughts and advice. Bought one earlier in the week, dialed in a few recommended wildlife friendly settings (including BIF) and pretty much blown away by initial results! The step up from the SX50 is a huge one in just about every aspect and totally...

Compact Camera Suggestions? Upgrading from Canon PowerShot SX720 HS

Considering an (expensive) upgrade to the newly crowned 'King', namely the RX10iv. So, I started with the Canon SX40 HS, currently use the SX50 HS and wondering if anyone has moved up to the Sony from either of these cameras (or maybe the SX60) and how you cope with what appears to be a...

    Wearing glasses/spectacles whilst birding

Sorry. Should have been more clear. My varifocal specs are fine. The strange issue with distant focus that I described occurs with multi-focal contacts!

    Wearing glasses/spectacles whilst birding

Just trialling some contacts with a view to losing varifocal specs for birding. Tried two combinations of multi-focals and suffered all the problems put forward above (poor distance vision for one*). Then tried mono-focal lenses (one for near, one for far). Certainly not for me (loss of...

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Can't honestly remember the last time I took a shot using the SX50 that wasn't at full zoom with 2x converter (this is my default setting on start up)! With BIF, I differ in that I use the 'sports' mode (not that it improves things by much). Cheers, AndyM

    Canon SX50 Specs

I have to say that after all this time with the SX50 I barely notice the poor EVF. I have the camera set to zoom to maximum on start up. I fix my eye on the subject and lift the camera to my eye. Switching on in this manner regularly gives me enough time to recall and fairly accurately locate...

    Canon SX50 Specs

Good to see that there are still a few of us left still plugging away at it...

    Canon SX50 Specs

The SX50 won't go in your pocket but it will hang off your belt with ease. As an SX40/50 owner, I can think of no sane reason to digiscope unless you absolutely want to! I'd probably fire off a ton of shots and be on to the next subject before I'd got a scope/tripod/camera combo set up...

    Canon SX50 Specs

CF, Just spent a ridiculous amount of time reading through the P900 thread. Initially I thought I was destined to part with some money for a new peice of kit. The wife thought so too! Glad I stuck with the thread until the end. The wife sends her regards :t: AndyM

    Canon SX50 Specs

They can't but you can bring the digital zoom up to around 100x without things getting too messy which gives the same results more or less. No way to save those settings though |=(| AndyM.

Oh yes. Always. It's not brilliant but it does the job. AndyM.

    Canon SX50 Specs

Rather inspired by the quality of images popping out of the SX50 at the moment. I agree that as yet, I personally see no reason to make the move to the SX60 (though I may have said that just before I moved from the 40 to the 50). |:$| So, a few more taken yesterday..
