Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast (3 Viewers)

Driving back from Liverpool tonight, abt 10.30, we'd just exited the wallasey tunnel and saw a barn owl flying by the side of the road just before j1 of the m53.
10 mins later after coming off the m53 and heading down towards queensferry, we saw another one fly across the road by childer Thornton.
Brill 2 barn owls in 10 mins!

Barn Owls used to breed under a bridge near junction 1. 10 mins from junction 1 to Q'ferry turn off (you must have had the afterburners on!)

Interesting that they used to breed under the bridge Jane!

I don't often come back from Liverpool late at night, but when I do I seem to see barn owls, the previous time was at the M53 eastham roundabout, when one came across the roundabout heading SE into the fields.

Afterburners! Nay, its only about 12 miles + in 10 mins= 72 mph!

Nature Reserve Of The Year

BBC Television's Country File programme is currently holding a competition to find the Nature Reserve Of The Year.

Along with four other reserves, Chris Packham has nominated Woolston Eyes Nature Reserve, Warrington as one of this years contenders.

Described as a " Post Industrial Gem " run by a fabulous team of volunteers, Woolston Eyes needs your vote if it is going to win this prestigious award.

Anyone who has visited the reserve will appreciate just how much hard work goes into funding and maintaining the site for the benefit of both the wildlife and the community and you can help support the project by winning national recognition in this competition.

To vote you can go to the attached link for the Country File Magazine

[email protected]

or, directly to the page at : http://www.countryfile.com/awards2014-15

PS votes need to be in by the 31st January.
