Sooty Oystercatcher 'opthalmicus' (Haematopus fuliginosus opthalmicus)

Just using these poor quality stills to illustrate the subtle difference in the 2 races of Sooty Oystercatcher in Australia. This one is 'opthalmicus' in the northern half which has a wider eye ring.
Location
Frankland Island, Queensland
Scientific name

Wow, that is some eye-ring this handsome chap has. Fabulous bird and picture taken in a brilliant setting. TFS WL!

I must confess I have never looked into subspecies of this bird, to my shame! I've now checked through my photos and found that we saw 'opthalmicus' on Lady Elliot Island in Queensland, and 'fuliginosus' on King Island, Tasmania. So thanks for pointing this out!
