Ring-necked Duck Male (Aythya collaris)

People often wonder how the Ring-necked Duck got its name, as there is usually no ring visible on the neck. The ring is there, but usually concealed by overlaying feathers. It can sometimes be seen though, particularly, as here, when the feathers are wet.
