Magnificent Spatuletail (Loddigesia mirabilis)

The Magnificent Spatuletail hummingbird has a tail that is three times its body length. The tail is split in two with a spatula (or paddle) on the end of each side. The spatulas are waved around the impress the lady hummingbirds. This HB lives only in one valley in the northern Andes of Peru and the conservation status is "Endangered" with a population of fewer than 1,000 birds.
