Female Torrent Duck with two ducklings (Merganetta armata)

I've started turning some of my ancient slides into jpegs, and thought I'd add this to the gallery as there aren't any shots with Torrent Ducklings quite this young.

What a habitat for these youngsters to have to get used to!. Well done on finding this picture James - there's few pictures of these ducks in the Gallery at all, let alone youngsters. I think this one will find it's way onto the Opus page.

The great grebe was out in the river near a small ecological reserve, perhaps the Ribera Norte reserve ...? If you have the time and can afford to hire a guide, I highly recommend booking a day (or more) of birding with Diego Gallegos. He has a biology degree, with a thesis on lapwing behavior. He knows all the birding spots in Buenos Aires, Entre Rios, and probably other areas as well. And he was great company on a birding trip |=)|
