Know what you mean..I once found a decent looking area using google maps near Buckingham. It turned out to have industrial quantities of Corn Buntings which was cool, but my first visit I locked myself out of the car, and the 2nd visit I got home to find my daughter getting rushed to hospital...

This kind of thing always amazes me! We went through a run of about 4 consecutive years always getting our first Brimstone Butterfly of the year on the 25th March, give or take a day. And earlier this month, I was lucky enough to find a Pectoral Sandpiper up in Orkney.. when I searched Google...

There you go.. North of Romsey ;) Only decent sightings for me were a Whinchat on the edge of North Baddesley over the weekend (Hoe Lane/Sylvan Drive "Dog Walkers's Field"), and still plenty of Buzzards at the West End of Hoe Lane (14 on Sunday Lunchtime). Peter

Head north of Romsey, and Barn Owls are fairly abundant, especially in the winter months. In fact it is possible to see all five regular Owl species in North West Hampshire / Wiltshire borders, if you are prepared to sacrifice an entire winter of evenings, and have plenty of luck! I've migrated...

Was the Pectoral Sand. on the lagoon? If so, that place must be one of the best rarity hotspots in England when it gets going!

Great photos AC/DC.. I saw a Sanderling in similar plumage a couple of weeks ago. Being used to only seeing them in Winter plumage before moving down to near the coast, I done a triple-take before realising what it was. Farlington this evening.. Low tide, so most Waders were distant. Did manage...

Glad to hear it is still clinging onto life! Tom had a point though.. plenty of seabirds come to an untimely, often grizzly end when they go inland. Milton Keynes Birders have seen two Shags die in front of them.. one choked on a carp, the other got stuck under ice. (One of the local bird clubs...

Any news of 18 Geese anywhere along Lower Test / Testwood lakes?! Saw the rear end of them over the house this morning, in V formation, but maybe too early in the autumn for anything decent. Whatever they where, they were the first Geese I've seen over North Baddesley.

Hoe Lane North Baddesley: The big gathering of Buzzards is still there, with 33 at 6pm this evening. A few were much closer to Hoe Lane today, so maybe they had been disturbed from the far end of the field which is out of view. Tried to check from the next footpath along Hoe Lane but...

Excellent shots.. and I'm pretty sure we had three birds today in the Keyhaven/Pennington area. The one I saw was nowhere near as orangey round the neck as number 2; but more orangey, and more patterned on the back than number 1. Pity I had no chance of a record shot in the conditions this morning.

Hello, That is definately not the "fishtail" bird.. the back is too uniform grey. This latest one looks like Adult Winter as opposed to Juv/1st Winter on Fishtail? Funny, I was almost expecting a Little Stint today but no joy for me.. It was hardwork but enjoyable out there today wasn't it Paul!

Hello, The Grey Phalarope was the highlight of a walk round Keyhaven and Hurst Cut Bridge this morning. It was opposite Fishtail Lagoon, the sea-side of the path at 10am. Looking at the photos on this thread, It looks pretty similar to the previous one.. perhaps with a stronger eye patch...

Hello Paul, Last year I had a decent run of trips to Keyhaven late afternoon / evenings and never saw another birder, or indeed too many members of the public there. Figured what I missed in terms of migrant passerines could be offset for a chance of something decent at dusk. Quite a challenge...

Hoe Lane field was still full of Buzzards this afternoon with 19 by 4pm. Better still, a Peregrine was perched on top of a distant pylon. Don't see many Peregrines round my way compared to south of the M27, and the hills north of Stockbridge. Scanning a few other fields, not much else around...

Hello.. The Hoe Lane Buzzards are back, just outside North Baddesley, just off the A3057. 25 this evening, all feeding in the stubble, plus 3 other Birders which was good. (Sometimes feels like I'm the only birder in the village!) I had to leave at 5pm, but the others seemed intent on staying at...

I'm about to put a scope on ebay coincidentally.. a Kowa TSN-821, in good condition. with Skua stay on case, and 32x wide angled eyepiece, (plus a 60x eyepiece). Let me know if anyone's interested. Would be looking for 250UKP. Anyway, back to birds!.. the Hoe Lane Buzzards are back down to 8...

The Buzzards at Upper Ashfield farm, off the A3057, at the West end of Hoe Lane now numbers 28 (Twenty Eight!). total has been 8 for the last week, so not sure where the additional 20 have come from. Elsewhere, a Lesser Whitethroat at Casbrook Common, but not much else there.

2 Wheatears in the turf field between North Baddesley and Chilworth from Misselbrook Lane, this evening. First I've seen around the village this year. They all seemed to leapfrog me in the Spring!

Thanks Kev. I checked out the info on the RSPB website, and it doesn't begin to do the place justice with respect to the birds present! Take a look at: http://www.sustainable-cholderton.co.uk/ Under nature and birds. Plus the "casual visitors" link at the foot of the birds page. Quite...
