    Twite would be extremely unlikely on a garden feeder. Could it have been a Redpoll? Or a Linnet?

    Thanks for your answers everyone. As I continued into North Devon there were still lots of Starlings on the wing, and I think they all probably congregate somewhere in Hartland Forest.
