Thanks again for the info on the egrets, I did make it over to Holme on Tuesday and managed to connect with a few of them, the light wasn't best for photos but it was great to be able to watch them. A couple of times one picked up a frog from the grass and came to the water to eat it...

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully I’ll find them tomorrow. For some reason cattle egrets always give me the run around

Does anyone have any gen on the cattle egrets at Holme? Hoping to head over there this week but not sure if they are from the reserve or village side.

    Norfolk birding

Popped to Cley yesterday morning. Lots of activity on the sea with more auks than I have seen together before in Norfolk. Also a lot of gannet activity, a number of RTdivers and a few manx passing through.

    Norfolk birding

Does anyone know where to report colour ringed godwits? I had this black-tailed at the harbour at Brancaster Staithe early afternoon. I was glad I'd stopped to get photos of it (the only way to make sure I don't get the colour rings wrong) as a juvenile white-tailed eagle drifted over while I...

A half decent pre-roost starling flock in Swaffham today. Link to a dodgy iPhone video to give an idea of numbers, very nice to watch. https://youtu.be/CDmZXSwSOkc

    Norfolk birding

Nipped over to Lynford yesterday lunchtime - three hawfinch in the paddocks, at least three firecrest in the top part of the arboretum and plenty of siskin and redwing kicking about.

    Norfolk birding

I have been unable to get out birding much of late due to other things taking over. Titchwell is one of my favourite birding spots (it is one of the main reasons why I moved to Norfolk) so I like the fact that your updates allow me to at least keep in touch with what is happening there.

    Norfolk birding

I've missed some much over the last few years that I wasn't too worried, more wondering if there was a story to tell. I'm just hoping that one turns up in range for me at a time when I can go for it. The stuff on the coast at the moment is a bit gripping - I had a message earlier from someone...

    Norfolk birding

had a few nice fly overs in the last couple of days. On Monday I had a hoopoe fly up from the side of the A47 and over the road near Narborough (phoned it out but was on the way to a job so couldn't look for it at the time). Spent the day working at Sandringham and had a red kite drifting about...

    Norfolk birding

Stopped briefly at the duck pond at Salthouse on Saturday and saw a bh gull with what appears to be a Norwegian ring. Couldn't get the number from the ring (kids were keen to head on down the coast) but might be worth a look if in the area.

    Norfolk birding

Just seen some photos on Facebook of a snowy owl in Bowthorpe. No doubt an escape but might be worth checking if you live nearby. scratch that now confirmed as an escape (no surprise).

    Norfolk birding

I got an invite to visit a friend who told me that they have barn owls in the field behind them and that they come into the garden... they weren't joking!

Where are you in Norfolk? There is a decent population in a little village called North Pickenham (nr Swaffham) if that is any good to you I can give you more info on them.

    Norfolk birding

I had brief views of what I thought might be rough-legged buzzard about a mile from Welney WWT as the crow flies this afternoon (on the road to ten mile bank) - just stuck up an ID thread and it seems others agree so worth keeping any eye out if in the area tomorrow -...

    Norfolk birding

Thanks for the info, was hoping to get some shots... I did have a look on your website to see if you had photographed it yet, thought that the lack of photos of it might mean it wasn't at a good range. Odds on some one will get lucky and get it on duck pond.

Anyone know where at Salthouse the grey phal is?

    Norfolk birding

Hopefully the steppe grey shrike will hang around for a few more days... I reckon I must be the only birder in Norfolk who hasn't seen it yet. If all the shrikes could hang around that would be good.

    Norfolk birding

apparently it was seen, photographed and videoed at Grimes Graves between the 19th of July and 17th of August but not reported until today.
