Myself and my sister came across a fantastic Great Grey Shrike whilst walking the dog this evening. Was chasing Chaffinches along the old railway line south of East Barsham this evening. I dont walk this area often, so cant be sure whether the birds been wintering in the area or whether its...

A great day walking from Cley to Weybourne and back, in stunning spring weather. Undoubted highlight being a Common Crane that flew in off the sea at Kelling Hard, calling high overhead before making its way east. Not the Aimed for Wheatear, LRP or Sand Martin, but it'll do :) Further...

I've finally gathered the details for that neckringed Greylag Goose I saw at Titchwell in Feb. It was initially ringed on 22nd June 2009 on Dutch wetlands, Reeuwijkse Plassen. It appears to have remained in Holland until making the jump to the UK on 21st April 2010 where it was seen in...

Dave J For what it's worth, I think your bird was most likely Littoralis Rock Pipit. The pics just dont hit me as Water. Underparts seem too sullied, head pattern is weak and the upperpart colour seems spot on for Rock. Thornham harbour is full of Rock Pipits too; I saw at least 15 different...

Cheers Graham. Sadly though, the tricky on was also tricky to photograph!

A neck-ringed Greylag was present at Titchwell yesterday, amongst the mixed Greylag/ Canada/Egyptian/Pink-footed/Mallard/Pheasant/Bewick Swan flock in the field to the east of the reserve (a great mix!) The ring was Green and inscribed XSS, with X over SS. Is this bird known? Anyone aware of...

John, not seen the bird myself, but I was told recently that it's been seen west of the bridge. Apparently its been present for the past 2 years, according to a chap I bumped into there the other day (made me realise how long its been since I used to walk that area regularly) Free flying fem...

Cor, that sounds good. Luckily though, I dont have to pull a sicky :P I'll be more than happy with a Hoopoe somewhere in the dunes... Jason

Yes mate. Drifted over on my lunch break. First non Lineatus Black Kite ever for the point, so a little bit of history written. Just hope it's accepted! Jason

I came across a couple here earlier this year, after searching hard for this species elsewhere. They are pretty hard to come across in Norfolk nowadays, with only a few reliable sites, so it was nice for me too! Jason

Absolutely miserable morning spent wasting time around Gun Hill and Burnham Overy Dunes produced 1 (1!!!) Chiffchaff, with 2 more nearer the village, and 2 probable Redpolls over. No other migrants whatsoever. I got soaked though, which was nice... :storm: Jason

Afraid not. The Snow Buntings have moved along to cley beach car park, with a few Lapland Bunts as well. I dont know if they're still there now though. Shorelarks were still present on wednesday by east bank. Jason

Well done Penny, David and Connor. Am jealous! My deluded roam today, in the hope of a Bluethroat (or actually, more realistically, a Black Redstart, Wheatear or White Wag), produced... nowt. Shorelarks are still at the end of east bank and showing well. Did also see 3 Spotshanks at...

Ooh, Bluethroat in e. Norfolk. The wind only changed direction last night. Amazing how things just turn up like that. I'm off to find one :king:;) Jason

Thanks Connor. I would have probably overlooked todays bird if it wasn't for reading about them on here. Jason

Glad you said that. Todays wind was bloody freezing! Gets right up my nose... Found a Nordic Jackdaw this afternoon at Salthouse, 100yds west of the duck pond, just by the road. Fits in nicely with these northernely winds we've had I suppose, although I dont know how common/uncommon they are...

Had a lovely summer plumaged Water Pipit today at a restricted access site. Bit too distant to make out the peachy wash on the breast, but the clean white throat and underparts and grey head were clear. I was hoping to catch up with a s. plumaged bird one day, so was very pleased to pick this...

    Norfolk birding

Salthouse today produced my first Wheatear of the year, by Little Eye. A lovely male. 144 year list. Not much else really; c10 Stonechats between Little Eye and Kelling Hard, 10 recently arrived Avocets, paired-up Oystercatchers, displaying Lapwings, Meadow Pipits in song-flight, a pair of...
