Rather good looking hybrid Hooded/Carrion Crow. Pure Hoodeds would have grey underparts as well.

    Norfolk birding

Thanks, the red looks pretty 'pure' to me. I wonder if that means there is still a viable number in that area? Good to know, either way.

    Norfolk birding

(I am not trolling for the site and suggest you don't give it out to anyone, but ...) Did your Golden Pheasant have a true red throat, or was there any black emerging? The last one's I saw in the Brecks were developing black throats (thought to be a sign of regressive genes, rather than...

Thanks, again, for finding the Isabelline today (just sorry that I was the one to tell you that it had been seen the day before!)

Humm! I see Bilvo's post has been deleted, glad you quoted it here! Anyone interested in the BBC report, it can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-28224917 Any response, Bilvo?

To clarify: NO SIGN today early morning and early afternoon!

    Norfolk birding

RBA have posted two pictures of the bird from yesterday and stated (on twitter) that they have received no news this morning and don't expect to until 'lunchtime'

I thought you were talking about geese to begin with! Maybe the crossbill is a hybrid!

Glad you got there to take some pis, very nice! I remember the Radde's there a couple of yrs back, always good to have a close up view of birds like this (even if it's not everybody's cup of tea!)

Now that's slightly more interesting (or probably not!) What's Lynn News say about them?!?

    Norfolk birding

Patch Success: After a long (and belated) wait the local Avocets finally hatched a week or so back. Two chicks were noted, having presumably swum from the island the nest was on. They have been seen regularly since, so it came as a big surprise when a third chick was noted a couple of days ago -...

How strong is the power of suggestion? PS I know nothing!

    Norfolk birding

Thanks, Nick (and to others that replied about the Green Sandpipers), very interesting and generally as I'd thought, although the numbers are still intriguing. This seems to suggest that they are early returnees for whatever reason, as the numbers of reports continue to increase from here on in...

    Norfolk birding

Good luck! It's the little records like this that keep me going between the twitches! LRPs have now hatched at two sites, but beginning to worry about the Avocet that is still sitting, seems to be rather long now!

    Norfolk birding

Has anyone else been encountering an unusual number of Green Sandpiper recently? I'd expect one or two to be hanging around, but there are 4 currently on my patch and peak during last week at 9. This seems to be a very unusual number for both the time of year and a small inland site. Anyone?

    Norfolk birding

I doubt it! Probably just waiting for the next biased misguided comment that adds nothing because people are so opposed to criticism that they throw their toys out of their prams!

    Norfolk birding

It is and you are (as long as you stay at the same distance as the people who are there before you!)

    Norfolk birding

The bird is on East Quay, favouring the feeders under the tree on the north side of the road, just east of the last house (on the north side!)

    Norfolk birding

Quick look before work on the west side, proved fruitless and comments from someone who had been over on the east, said no sign. However, I wasn't there for long!

    Redshank it is!
