    New Sigma 150/600

It's a very important point you make about 35mm gear - we're spoiled rotten these days but we still want more. Affordable and high quality digital gear has opened up a world of possibilities for everyone.

    New Sigma 150/600

I drove past Duxford at quarter to 8 Saturday morning on the way to Lakenheath; hadn't realised that it was the air show weekend. I very nearly had an instant change of plan as I approached the car park but continued on my way and had an enjoyable morning watching Marsh Harriers. I was on my way...

    New Sigma 150/600

Would be interesting to see his results too Jeff. I assume that the results from his set-up but without the tc surpass the sigma? Paul

Thanks Jeff, may I ask about the ring of fire? Not heard that expression before - not applied to cameras that is!

Love that Gannet, hadn't seen that one yet. Did you keep the OS switched on while photographing the BIF Jeff?

Smashing Jeff, love the second shot - bringing home flowers for the missus!

    New Sigma 150/600

Get out and enjoy it Jeff, looks like a cracking week. Bempton is somewhere I keep promising I will visit but always find something else that has to be done first, but one day I will get there. I want to see the gannets desperately!

    New Sigma 150/600

They are a good series of shots. The more I see the more I think that if I do go for one of these superzooms, I will have to save for the sport model. Being as I have just had to replace the car it won't be this year now so will be plenty more time to think about which is best

    New Sigma 150/600

Definitely doesn't with the 70D; they are totally separate AF systems and live view is more accurate if the target area is large enough due to the way the technology works. The downside is that your target needs to be obvious to the AF as the focus point is a larger area. I bought a loupe for my...

Sorry, I forgot to add the link, what a Muppet! Will find it again I'm sure and will post it when I do

    New Sigma 150/600

Shot of a distant (ish) plane, 70D and contemporary. Looks sharper than your heron Jeff which must have been considerably closer. Not having a go just saying there must be some reason why yours is so far out. Would it be worth contacting Sigma UK?

Not good is it! Shame but that's no use to me

    New Sigma 150/600

Is that with or without the tc Jeff? I realise the best results are going to be with close subjects but there are many occasions when I want to be able to record birds that are unapproachable - marsh harriers spring to mind. Elmley Marshes is a great place to sit in the car and try and...

    New Sigma 150/600

Think we are going to have to put it down to personal preference and possibly that the Tamron is a slightly brighter image, but having looked again I still feel the Tamron at 5.6 is sharper than the Sigma at 6.3 and that is across the board. What is really odd is that I think it's noticeably so...

    New Sigma 150/600

That link is wrong - I seem to have linked to them both at 600 f8 not 400. I was quite bleary eyed at the time but the Tamron was most definitely much sharper, so much so that I wondered if there was something wrong with the Sigma they had used. I will look again next time I am on the laptop.

    New Sigma 150/600

That's a very good point Roy and I have been sat at work this morning with not much to do so have been doing some comparisons. Both Tamron and Sigma at 400mm, wide open, the Tamron is much sharper...

    New Sigma 150/600

Tamron 150-600 vs Sigma 150-600 Sport, both on mkiii at f8, centre frame the Sigma just shades it but after that the Sigma wins hands down...

    New Sigma 150/600

Good shot Jeff, all the more with it being shot through double-glazing. I am guessing that this was with the 1D mkiii
