    Great Grey Shrike Great Grey Shrike - Hanchurch Woods in clear fell at Swynnerton Old Park We've been looking for one of these up at Hanch for years but now with all the clearfell we know it was only a matter of time. Well done to Steve & Heather.

    And as I'm going away for 11 days on Monday it appeared just in time at the 'Minsmere of the Mids' - certainly a site that is living up to it's hype! I was away last week & got back on Friday night-good timing or what !!!! A brilliant bird, July is the new May in Staffs these days :-)

    Crossbills at Maer Steve Turner and myself have had up to 4 Crossbills at Maer hills this weekend with 'odd' flight calls, Steve had 4 fly over yesterday and I had a flock of 3 and a single fly over today. The call is quite low and similar to a Bullfinch. There are also Common Crossbills up...

    Though Nick P suggests its a genuine record I'm not so sure myself. I go to Silverdale CP on average two or three times a week and apart from NP & ST who also check the site there are no other 'bird watchers' I see up there who would be capable of identifying an RBF without looking in a field...

    Drove straight to Rudyard this afternoon direct from Manchester Airport - can't believe its stuck around long enough for me to get it !! Thats the full set of Terns for me now in StaffsB (: PS Obviously apart from Sooty Tern in 1852, I think Sam Claire was the only one to see that;)

    Had a Woodlark briefly in the Void this morning, it was loosely associating with the Meadow pipit flock, Rob72 had better views of it when it landed on the path in front of him.

    Hooded Merg Saw the Hooded Merg this afternoon, whether its wild or not it certainly looked the part choosing a fast flowing river it was diving almost continuously for what looked like Elvers. Theres an area of shingle in the river mouth it would be useful if it decided to rest up on there...
