    Stonechat passage North Staffs An unprecedented and unlikely count of 22 Stonechats at Berryhill this afternoon by far a site record and 9 at Silverdale CP also a possible site record. Makes you wonder where they have come from.

    I was there Sunday morning and has already been observed there are at least 2 likely candidates, Perhaps the best bet is to get photos when they come down to drink in puddles near the log piles at the bottom end of the clearing. If someone is in place with a view of the puddles before the flock...

    Well I have been giving it a bash for YBW's this last week scouring the Sycamores at Fenton park alongside Berryhill but it never seems to work when you're targeting a particular species.

    They are mobile and are best located by calls. They have been seen the last few days along the track from the Woodcutters cottage. Approaching from the Hanford direction park in the main car park on the left hand side and walk back across the road and along the track past the Woodcutters cottage.

    Silverdale CP Red-backed Shrike present to 14:15 at least. From Black Bank turn onto High Lane (by the mast), from the end of High Lane bear right along the track and after approx 100metres turn right to view the fence line. Excellant find by Paul Birkin and Dave Waller.

    Short-eared Owls at Berryhill It looks like they have finally vacated the premises, last seen on the 12 May and present since the 13 November 2011 with up 4 birds present from 20 Dec to 1 Jan. Real urban stars these birds who seemed amazingly unconcerned by the daily disturbance.

    Osprey reported in Birdguides over Conservation pool at 13:20 at Weston Sprink 14 May. Not aware of a conservation pool here. Have Birdguides confused this with the Tittesworth Osprey also at 13:20 over the conservation pool.

    From your pretty good description I would say the pool in question is the Tiddlers fishing pool which is a popular spot and well used pool for fishing. There was no sign unfortunately of any Whinchat this morning.

    Only 2 Groppers this morning at Berryhill which is a very large fall in numbers compared to the last few years.

    The floodgates seem to have opened, the Berryhill Wheatear and Ouzel counts we saw this morning are the highest recorded here and I can not recall seeing as many anywhere before.

    Present at least 07:30 to 07:45 and dropped down in the 'Lap Bunt' paddock and also on the Ouzel Mound but no further sign by 08:30. Also seen by Pete Dobson

    Lack of co-operation on the part of this bird,looks like its gone to Lincs.

    Its certainly at home on that ridge, 3 days present now and earlier on this morning it drove another male Ouzel away.

    I am not aware of anyone recording the calls, it would certainly be helpfull if recordings could be obtained.
