Wall Brown Had my first wall brown of the year today in the garden of the Manor House in Claxton. Was extremely surprised as so many reports are toward the coast, but extremely happy to see it nonetheless.

Queens Hill Jimbob, Based on the fact that todays sightings were on the circular walk then that would suggest the area by the brick building before you get to Queens Hill proper. Hope you get to see what you want to.

Other Sites Other obvious one as they should be emerging any time now is the chalkhill blue colony at Warham Fort (near Wells). If you want the best possible views of purple hairstreak then suggest Sheringham Park and going to top of the observation tower. There you are looking down on the...

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Another fruitless search for green hairstreak at Mousehold Heath today. Unless I am rubbish at spotting a butterfly (possible) then saw nothing that resembles one on the carpet of gorse around the vinegar pond. My only thought is that the cold nights that we have had are holding back their...

Green Hairstreak I see that the first record (in Hampshire) was on 11th April so must be due to emerge anytime now. The Gorse is looking really fresh. Might try again this afternoon as temperature is fine again. Forecast is for a run of nice weather so that should surely drag them out soon...

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Hairstreaks James, I think you will find that they are purple hairstreaks. As it is late in the season colours are dulling so the predominant colour that you will be seeing is the brown of the upper wing surfaces. If I have done it right I have attached a picture we took at Sheringham Park...
