Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Thank you both. I know a bit about the Wirral and I have been checking the website. It's always useful to have advice from those in the know. I think I'll give Leasowe a miss and try to get to Hoylake for the roost and sneak in a quick look at West Kirby for the Mergansers. Cheers, Gareth

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Thinking of doing a bit of sea watching off Leasowe over high tide this Sunday. Just hoping to get a few things onto the year list if I can. Is there much to be seen at the moment? I was thinking Red-throated Diver, Scoter, Gannet.. is there anything more unusual around? Or am I being optimistic...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Yesterday there was 3 North west fisheries vehicles present that drove past me at Leasowe lighthouse. The only thing is they drove past pretty much at high tide when there was no Cockle picking activity to monitor - the people that did hang around for the day were having a kip in their...

At least 10 Common sandpiper at weaver bend/ship canal yesterday - I wondered if they may have bred there or nearby or if they are just migrants, are there any records? There was also a 2 adult and a juvenile peregrine in the area. A friend says the was 10 Common scoter at New brighton today at...

I was at Frodsham again today. To add to Bigshent's post I found the Little stint early pm but it almost definately wasn't there in the morning. I also had Gropper along Lordship lane, 2 Dunlin and Barwit, 6 White wags on tank 6, 1 Swallow, 2 Sand martin, Wheatear on fence posts in fields near...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Called in for a quick look over Frodsham marsh this afternoon - on number 6 tank there was at least 4 Yellow wags and 9 White wags around the pools under the new bund. Someone has recorded a Curlew sand recently too, which seemed odd. I found a Dunlin with a fairly long bill, which may be the...

One of my mates thinks he saw a willow tit at the feeders at Risley Moss. Knowing there was some discussion on here recently over the Marsh and Willow tits in Cheshire I wondered if anyone knows which species it was likely to be? Cheers Gareth

I went to Delamere forest in seach of Firecrest and Crossbills this afternoon. I followed Bakers way, crossed stream, took path left and possibly got to the clearing.. Does the clearing mean the area with no mature trees but thick low vegetation? Lots of common birds but no Firecrest. 6 probable...

The stints were in the flooded area to the west of the field, near the bend in the tarck. Originally there were c80 Dunlin but I picked up the stints in the afternoon when there was c370 Dunlin so they may have been there all along or moved in with the Dunlin. There has been up to 4 Ruff too...

I didn't realise R.C. Pochard was such a scarce bird in Cheshire, I saw it first at around 11am on Tuesday and would have reported it sooner in the day if I'd have known. Glad that others are getting to see it. The water pipit was still in SE corner of no.4 feeding with Pied wags and Meadow...

Migration at Hale head was outstanding this morning. I arrived a bit late but caught the tale end of the thrushes, pigeons and finches. At the car park a flock of c50 Long-tailed tit went through and there was female Blackcap. I missed the earlier reported Ring ouzel but picked up calls of many...
