Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Can any of the Frodsham regulars help me out? From late August onwards large numbers of predominantly Greylag with some Canada's fly north along the east side of the Cheshire ridge (Eddisbury hill etc) in the evenings and return in the mornings. Presumably going to roost at Frodsham and then to...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Polecat & Crossbill are recent garden ticks for me at Delamere. Best I can manage to keep the thread going. Luv Dave

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

:-( my neighbour has Woodcock on my garden list but I don't.

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Well I might as well add my odd bits to this dying thread. A quandry; A pair of Buzzard are feeding young just out of sight in a bit of woodland in front of my house at Delamere. Yesterday, the bird I presume to be the male flew past with a Snake sp whilst I was sat on my sofa in my living room...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Thanks Jane, I love hearing about your Red Rocks stuff but never could compete! My Garden list is about 75 but that's only 18 months. Plenty to go at yet with no Willow Warbler and only two waders so loads of possibilities.

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Well it might not be of interest to anyone other than me but I've had two Cheshire garden ticks recently. Whitethroat on territory in the corner of a field across the road which sings from the garden at first light and a Mediterranean Gull after scanning through many, many thousands of...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Still a single male Brambling visiting my feeders at Delamere with static numbers of up to 20 Redpoll and 10 Siskin. Luv from Dave

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Bramblings down to one in my Delamere garden recently but still constantly double figures of Redpoll and Siskin on the feeders. (I refuse to use the term "Lesser")

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Me too - except I'm in Delamere and it's up to 4 since late October on my feeders

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

nice one - what's your garden list on. Mines, Delamere, about 70 so far and I only ask cos' I've no idea if that's good or bad. Still missing loads of stuff such as Grey Wagtail, Reed Bunting, Redpoll etc. Luv from Dave

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Just a quicky. In the 90's there was a May Red-necked Grebe at Frodsham along with Garganey (pair?) and two Black-necked Grebes. Over the course of three days they all moved to Budworth Mere, just a heads up to the patchers that this may be a good chance for Lesser Scaup.

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Oh blimey, did he try it again? He nearly drowned/was arrested last time ;-) and it doesn't fit anyway!

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Blimey, they didn't breed inland at all in my day. How's the Heronry at Budworth doing, it was the largest in Britain, first beating Northward Hill in Kent around 1996? Surely that can explain small fish loss if the number of nests is increasing? I'm not a patcher there any more sadly, hung up...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

If you have noticed the reduction over the last few years then how does that suggest Cormorant. When I started birding at Budworth 25 years ago Cormorant numbers were very healthy, around 50 plus at times. Given the patch trend of pretty much everything decreasing in numbers are Cormorant...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Well as all I saw was a large bird that wasn't a Buzzard or Heron then sadly it won't be my 200th for me for my ex patch :-(

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Bit of an odd one, anyone at Marbury No1 Tank about 5 minutes ago ca 15.45? From my office in Winnington Hall in the ICI complex just watched a "large bird" circling for around 5 mins before flying off toward Anderton. Very high and didn't have my right specs with me or infact any optics but it...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Certainly a first for the area - blimey oh corks even I would have gone for that and my office window practically overlooks No1 tank so I probably should spend less time working and more time hanging out of the window.

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Perhaps not relevant to the thread but I don't really care. Just heard about the death of Martin Gilbert, one of the Cheshire birding greats although he did move around a bit, and would like to publicly say God bless and I will miss you hugely. Dave
