Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Loads of Canada Geese around Poynton in the last couple of weeks, counted over 200 at Poynton Pool on sunday afternoon and they were incredibly noticeable flying low over the village on a daily basis, though only 5 remained yesterday afternoon, the rest seemed to have moved on maybe? Other...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Any reports on Osprey yesterday? I thought I saw one (me and an experienced birder) whilst helping out with the RSPB in Exchange Square in Manchester. The bird was slowly drifting north at lunchtime so could have been over Cheshire at some point?

Apparently there was a Goshawk seen at Jackson's Brickworks Poynton on Saturday. Was seen by one of the rangers. Any more info?

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Got my first Chiffchaffs of the year earlier this afternoon at Jackson's Brickworks in Poynton. Got one in the bins feeding, and heard another singing at the same time. Well chuffed!

Does anyone know what flew over Poynton at 2pm? My folks would love to know! They said there were roughly 100 'gull type' birds flying in a V formation flying west to east. Unfortunately I was otherwise engaged (always always having a bath when something interesting happens!) so can't help out...

Damn beat me to it! I'll add that the Starling roost was spectacular

2 dozen Waxwings in my garden this afternoon! Great news! Unfortunately I wasn't there to see them. Drat drat and triple drat, just hope they come back tomorrow.

Probably about 10. I work late (hence the reply now beyond 1am) and they woke me up so I had only a vague idea of the time

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

I had two massive skeins of geese (presumably pink feet) go over the house this morning, just fantastic. Just wondering if I should put them on the garden list?!

I'm interested in witnessing the Leach's spectacle on wednesday. Where's the best place? Also as i've only got bins and no scope, what sort of view can i expect? (little dots on horizon or a scene from Hitchcock's The Birds?!)

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Had a trip around Moore nature reserve near warrington yesterday. Nothing much to report other than three incredibly cute Little Grebe chicks and their parents. Plus a whole bunch of butterflies. Does anyone else feel Moore could be a lot better? There is a huge need for signposting, i can't...

Just got my first Swifts of the year at my local patch, 3 flew over within 10mins of each other, just brill. Almost Put the 20+ Swallows and Sand Martins in the shadow, good hour's birding!

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Another good day for me yesterday, went to IMF on me bike, in hindsight not a great decision, you ever tried using bins on a motorbike! 4 more lifers for me including Avocet and Spoonbill (it flew over me as I was leaving, just awesome). Wandered round Poynton on birding walk on monday, found...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Saw my first swallow of the year earlier on today at my local patch. GC-Grebes starting to build nests too, which was good to see. Not much else other than unidentified white breasted soaring raptor and usual assortment of parkland ducks. Also saw my first singing Chiffchaff of the year at the...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

What a day I had today (Ok probably not so good if you're more experienced). Went to my local patch at Poynton Pool to look for Water Rail (none there), but I saw 4 GC Grebes and Tufted Duck (first i've seen there). Then drove cross the county to IMF and saw Ruff (never seen), Whooper Swan...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Hi all (first real post here) Was out an about in the hills above Pott Shrigley on the search for Wheatears (none there yet) and I saw a Peregrine, I know that's not that remarkable in this day and age but it's the closest i've seen to home. Plus I saw 5 species of Crow in the space of ten mins...
