I think the iora is the Common and not White-tailed.

    Hawk in Sayulita, Mexico

Great. Here are some of my pics of this species. The last photo before the crab-hunting serie show an immature bird in flight and the tail length is thus easy to estimate.

    Lark Morocco

It is not the same bird, I have just put it to show how the Thekla's bill is. It didn't display, just singing, perched.

    Lark Morocco

I have put him in "ignore" for several months, but it makes no difference. He comments all my posts, he is quoted by others and thus I read his comments in all case. I would need a "block" like in Facebook, to hide my post from him, but it seem impossible here. Several members have gone from BF...

    Hawk in Sayulita, Mexico

Well, for your record I live in Mexico, and I see plenty of them. It is not your case. Its tail is perfectly matching Common Black-Hawk. Your comment makes us losing time.

    Lark Morocco

you can, and the admin can remove my post again. I happened 4 or 5 times. I ignored Butty, I asked him no to comment my post, but nothing to do : he keeps harrassing me. I even consider to leave BF to get rid of thid "pain in the...". It is still an option.

    Lark Morocco

In the field, outer-tailed feathers looked white ; on the pic, whitish. Its song was that of a Skylark (imitation I guess?); I also wondered about the fairly long pp.

    Lark Morocco

I try to convince you to avoid commenting my posts as I asked you several time, in public and in DM. I don't know why you keep hassling me.

    Hawk in Sayulita, Mexico

Adult Common Black-Hawk has a short tail, but juvenile is long-tailed. It is a typical immature Common Black-Hawk without doubt.

    Lark Morocco

What do you think of the whitish edge of the tail ? Here is a straight bill for a lark, an easy Thekla.
  11. Valéry Schollaert

    Lark Morocco

for a lark, it is a clearly curved bill, whatever your phone says. Phones, even with AI, have no skill in ornithology. Try to use your own skills ; and if you have none, learn.

Yellow legged Gull this time ?

I can't see details on the photos, but jizz seems to match Caspian IMO.

    Hawk in Sayulita, Mexico

    Common Black-Hawk IMO

    Lark Morocco

Hi all, Yesterday, reaching the Middle Atlas on the way from Merzouga to Ifrane, we found this tame lark on the roadside, at about 1500 ASL. Identification looked obvious, but we took photos as the bird was in close range. Watching the pics, I'm surprised of the moult. If I see well, tertials...

Maghreb or Crested Lark ? MOROCCO

I guided in Morocco from 1992 to 2006, and I always looked for several distinctive taxa such Maghreb Lark, Seebohm's (Atlas) Wheatear, North African (Mourning) Wheatear, North African Buzzard, Atlas Flyctacher, African Blue Tit and more as if they were split. Most of them have been split since...

Maghreb or Crested Lark ? MOROCCO

Hi all, I've seen this Crested Lark in Marrakech last week. I think it is only the range of Crested Lark but the bill is so long that I've a doubt. What do you think and are you aware of any records of Maghreb Lark north of the High-Atlas mountains ? THANKS.

    Black Kite??? Portugal Algarve

Black Kite (with capital letters as shown here) indeed. The 6 "fingers" are typical, Red Kite having only 5 "fingers". See comparison here below.

Ficedula flycat, today at Marrakesh, Morocco.

Thank you Graham, I've red these articles before posting. You wrote "extent and shape of white mid wing panel" is matching Pied, but comparing to online photos of Atlas and my experience of the two, I think the opposite. The forehead is the problem for Atlas indeed, the only one, otherwise I...

Ficedula flycat, today at Marrakesh, Morocco.

"Speculigera really should all be on territory now." I've guided dozen of trips in Morocco since 1991, and I used to look for speculigera much before it was split. We found adult males (I considered immatures and females unidentifiable with the current knowledge in the past) in oasis south of...

Ficedula flycat, today at Marrakesh, Morocco.

As the bird appear to be a 2cy, juvenile outer tail feathers can show white, and I wonder if the forehead, typical in adult, can still be used. Very wide wing patch and grey rump were the reasons for which I immediately thought about iberiae or speculigera.
