    Replacement eyepiece cover?

Thanks for the advice. I ended up manufacturing my own, as described in another thread: http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?p=2754731

    Third-party eyepiece covers?

Thanks for the advice. I ended up manufacturing my own, from the lid of a prescription pill container, and padding its inner diameter with some hockey tape to get a perfect fit.

    Third-party eyepiece covers?

Hi. Is there such a thing as a manufacturer of universal rubber caps for spotting scope oculars? I lost the cap for my Nikon ED50 (MC 27x) eyepiece and would like to replace it. It doesn't seem easy (or possible?) to replace it with an original part, but I could easily settle for something...

    Replacement eyepiece cover?

Hi, I lost the rubber ocular cap for my Nikon MC 27x eyepiece (that I use with the Nikon ED50 scope). I've been looking all over for a replacement, but can't seem to find one. Would appreciate any advice on where to purchase one. Thanks.

Best x27 eyepiece for Nikon ED50

I went through and purchased a 27X MC ocular from amazon.jp via tenso as well. Very smooth process, delivered within 10 days in total, although I was slammed by a Canada customs fee of $40, so my total ended up at about $225.

Best technique/equipment for photographing hand-held birds

Thanks for all the feedback. Here's what I ended up doing (banding seson is just over). I started out using my Canon PowerShot SX30 IS, generally in program (P) mode or sports mode, and trying to zoom in to a long focal length in order to get blurry backgrounds. Here are some shots...

How to mount Swarovski scope on Gitzo head

Yes, Parker, I have noticed that. I guess I'd like to confirm that the video pin on the Gitzo QR plate would fit in the locating holes underneath the Scope Rail.

How to mount Swarovski scope on Gitzo head

Thanks John. So I guess the question is whether the pin on the top of the Gitzo QR plate will align with the "anti-rotation" hole on the bottom of the Swarovski Spotting Scope Rail. Although the Gitzo QR plate will allow for some balance adjustment, the Swarovski Spotting Scope Rail allows for...

How to mount Swarovski scope on Gitzo head

Hi, How do I best attach a Swarovski scope mounted on a Swarovski Spotting Scope Rail to a Gitzo GH2720QR or a Gitzo GH1720QR head. Anybody using that combination? The Swarovski Spotting Scope Rail is designed to fit Manfrotto quick release mounts, but I like the Gitzo heads better. But I...

Best technique/equipment for photographing hand-held birds

Thanks for the feedback. If you are alone, a snapshot camera (or a tripod-mounted SLR) might be the way to go, however, I'm assuming someone else is holding the bird while I am photographing it. So, I would have both hands available for handling an SLR. I haven't gotten around to photograph...

Best technique/equipment for photographing hand-held birds

Hi, I'm just starting to volunteer at a bird banding station this spring, and I am hoping to be able to take photographs of the birds we band, partly as a documentation for my self, and partly as I'd like to blog about my experiences. Now, I was wondering if anyone here has some experience...

New Canon S95 first digiscoped pics/review on the net

@lmans66: I agree, it is difficult to adjust the camera slider, but since I don't need to adjust it after the initial tuning of the setup, it doesn't bother me much. ----------- Blogging about birds and other matters at: http://sonofjon.wordpress.com/

    Reputation of Canon IXUS 300SH?

I just tried the SD4000IS on my Swaro ATM-80 HD with the 25-50 zoom, and was quite pleased with the the fit in terms of vignetting. I attached the SD4000IS to the scope with my DCB as close as possible to the ocular (the camera lens extension is the longest at 28 mm and 105 mm). At 25x zoom on...

New Canon S95 first digiscoped pics/review on the net

I tried the S95 on my Swaro ATM-80 HD with the 25-50 zoom today, and was slightly disappointed. It seems to be a great camera, I love the handling, but it gives me much more vignetting problems than my current camera, the old Casio Z750 (3x zoom, 35-105mm equivalent). I attached the S95 to the...

    Canon S90 thread gone!?

As I am considering the new Canon S95 for my digiscoping setup I wanted to go back and have a look at the old S90 thread "Digiscoping with the Canon S90", but it seems to have disappeared from the forum. I've searched and searched, but can only find it in the Google Cache...

RFI: Optimal camera zoom range for minimal vignetting?

Thanks, I'd definitely be interested in the S90, if only it had HD video. In any case, I'm not really looking for advice on particular camera models, there are already dozens of such threads here. I'm more interested in a discussion on the physics and optical geometry of the camera scope...

RFI: Optimal camera zoom range for minimal vignetting?

Thanks very much for shedding some light on this. I really should head down to Bestbuy here in Toronto and finger a little bit on the various models to see how the different lenses behave. Is that because (1) the lenses of the latter models move more when zooming from min to max; or (2) for a...

RFI: Optimal camera zoom range for minimal vignetting?

I've gone through the forums here now for a while, and I repeatedly see the recommendation to use a digital camera with 3x zoom for best digiscoping results (minimal vignetting) and to stay away from the 5x zoom cameras. Now, what’s the technical reason for this? I’ve looked all over the place...

Lens shade stuck on new ATM-80HD

Dear Clay, thanks for your reply. I apologize for the long delay. I appreciate your help. You asked whether the sun shade becomes jammed once I have started pulling it out. Not really. I experience (1) that it very hard to pull the shade out from the inner locked position and (2) that there is...

Lens shade stuck on new ATM-80HD

Thanks Parker, I'll look into contacting Swarovski here in Canada. Still, I'd be interested to hear from other ATM owners.

    Zoom with scope or camera?

Thanks RJM. I really appreciate you taking time to help out. Now, your statement is with regards to light throughput I suppose? While your statement is rather technical, I think I understand the reasoning. But, while exit pupil values for my ocular are available, how do I know my cameras...
