    Fethiye Turkey- Moths around town

From the shape this looks more like a Ricaniid planthopper which could explain why no one has put forward an id. I was fooled by one in Madagascar that I initially thought was a moth. No idea of the species though, I don't think there are any of the family native to Europe, but some are...

Herring Gull or Vega Gull or just an Oly Gull

Slaty-backed Gull? I would suggest too dark for Herring/Vega. Large white tertial crescent and just a hint of bright pink legs look better fit for Slaty-backed.

I watched one fly in low through groups of people to try to take a pigeon or House Sparrow from a flock feeding on the path within Berlin Zoo - it missed.

    Long weekend in Berlin

Ken, All those I had good looks at were juv's, or immature birds. I had some great views of Hawfinch coming down to drink by one of the streams running through the park. They dropped into a thick tangle but could be made out drinking at the waters edge. There were at least 6 birds but could...

    Long weekend in Berlin

I was in Berlin for a couple of days last August and spent some time wandering round the Tiergarden - must have seen at least 6 different Goshawks, some incredibly close. They don't seem bothered by the people and the people don't bother them.

    How far do birders walk?

it's not uncommon to see me walk 12-16 miles in a days birding close to home, in the hills at the top of the south Wales valleys. It doesn't usually get a big species list - 40 spp is very good, but in summer can include Redstart, Pied Fly, Spot Fly, Wood Warbler, Gropper, Tree Pipit, Cuckoo...

    Where to go at Christmas?

All of the regular winter birding destinations should be fine over the Crassmass period - your choice depends upon how strong the desire is to get away from it all - Brunei, I believe, has banned any form of outward Christmas display - and how deep is your wallet - costs, partic' flights, tend...
