    Norfolk birding

Thanks very much. Is Titchwell as good a place as any? Probably is, just checking if there's some weird stat that things hardly ever turn up there! Cheers Oscar

    D3S or D700

To be honest, the D7000 is a very good camera; why were you unable to get good flight shots of seabirds? If you have it with both a 300 f2.8 and 500 f4, I am not sure that one bad experience is enough to warrant spening a huge sum of money on an upgrade. Oscar

    Little Owl Nestbox

Hi all, I am fortunate enough to be in the position where my aunt has a pair of little owls that nest very near her every year. I would like to put up a nestbox, but do not which one. Does anyone have any experience with little owl nestboxes? Thanks Oscar ;)

Input please on upgrading from D80 to D700

As you are doing bird photography, I would go for the D300s. I have it on a Sigma 50-500 and it performs fantastically - the quality is stunning - if you wait for a possible new camera to come out, the price of the D300s will drop. Oscar

Help with dull image / exposure correction please?

If you are shooting against a white sky, the exposure is verydifficult and the sky will never be flattering to the bird! Try to isolate it against a blue background such as shy. Dark grey clouds can look quite nice as well sometimes. Ths sun also helps to bring the bird out from the background...

    Ducks on water question

Although it is a widespread belief that ducks like bread, it is not a nutritional source of food for them and so is best not to feed them with it. Have you tried using a hide to get closer to them. Also, try to shoot and the beginning and end of the day, when the light is at its best. Another...

    Using decoys....

Do you usre a hide? If so, the should be ok with your presence anyway. Even if you use duck calls, I still think that if you are stnading there on a bank they would see you and prefer not to come closer

    feather details

is the image a crop? i think that when it is sharpened, from what i can see here, it makes the drops of water look unnatural-i think maybe you need to get closer to it the light also helps

    DSLR newbie

if you use shutter priority, the higher the shutter speed, the lower the aperture will be. The realationship between them will be different as in good light you will be able to achieve a faster shutter speed with say, f8 than you would in bad light. Once the shutter speed has reached the point...

    DSLR v Compact ?

Get a DSLR. It will have the best image quality-something like the D300 from Nikon. Then get a Macro lens. The sigma 70-300 won't give you life size shots, but a specialised prime macro lens will. Because the canon and nikon macros are expensive, go for one like the Tamron 90mm f2.8 SP DI Macro...

    D200 or D700 or 40D?

Gaz, Duke Leto, what i meant was if you use the Nikon 300mm f2.8 VR + a 1.7x converter, you will get a 500mm f4.8 with VR. Sorry if it was unclear. ;) As for the image quality of the D300s, Andy Rouse is testing it at the moment and I would wait for his review to come out before nying. He's in...
