    Kowa's new 50 mm scope

Kowa TSN-553 I believe I read that the 553/554 eyepieces are integral (non-removable). Regards, Tony

    Spotting scope for spotter airplanes.

Scope for Spotting Airplanes Al, This is a subject near and dear to my heart. Over 90% of my scope usage is for spotting planes. In particular, I enjoy trying to make ID’s at extreme distances – my record is positive ID of a Boeing 747 Large Cargo Freighter (DreamLifter) at ~120 miles...

Date of Manufacture for Zeiss 8X30B Monocular?

Found Answer - Thanks I called Zeiss USA and the person I spoke to was able to quickly provide the date of manufacture (1971). Not sure why I didn't think of calling sooner. Thanks all.

Date of Manufacture for Zeiss 8X30B Monocular?

Greetings, I recently acquired a Zeiss 8x30B monocular with a serial number 811xxx. Searched and found serial number-to-date of manufacture conversion tables for Zeiss binoculars. Is there such a table for monoculars? Thanks!

    Swarovski ATX65 - Case Recommendations?

The Swarovski bag may not be as svelte as I was hoping for but it does open up new possibilities...using a binocular bag hadn't occurred to me. Thanks!

    Swarovski ATX65 - Case Recommendations?

All, I'm seatching (without success) for a padded cloth/fabric bag that can accommodate the ATX65 disassembled in minimum volume while still affording good protection. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    7 x 42 EDG and CA

Sorry...didn't realize there was an existing thread. I found that a slotted screwdriver with a 1.5mm blade width was a perfect fit for the set screw. Backing the set screw out by approximately 1.5 revolutions was sufficient. The only other note is that when using the spanner to tighten...

    7 x 42 EDG and CA

Hi, Saw your comment about the unsatisfactory hinge tension in your 7x42 EDG. I recently purchased a used pair of 8x42s perfect in every way other than a "loose" hinge. I was able to adjust easily (<5 minutes) with an inexpensive camera wrench/spanner and now the tension is perfect. You may...

    Swarovision EL 10x50 vs. Fujinon 10x50 FMT-SX Sharpness/Resolution ?

Decision Made - Thanks Thanks for the responses everyone. From your input, considerable research and the chance to evaluate the Swarovski 10x50 and Canon's (15x50 & 10x42), I elected to go with the Canon 10x42. I have them now and, even with their ergonomic eccentricities, they are beyond...

    Swarovision EL 10x50 vs. Fujinon 10x50 FMT-SX Sharpness/Resolution ?

All, Looking for information relating to sharpness/resolution of these two binoculars especially at center of FOV. I will be using for aircraft ID at typical distances of six to ten miles. Any first-hand experience, insights or pointers to relevant reviews or testing results would be...

    Binoculars in literature

A Couple from Alistair MacLean... MacLean, Alistair; 1957; Guns of Navarone; Page 126; Zeiss; "He was back on the bank within thirty seconds, cheek muscles contracting involuntarily as the ice-chill eyepieces of Mallory's Zeiss-Ikon binoculars screwed into his face." MacLean, Alistair; 1967...

    First Look at EDG 7x42

It caught me by surprise but there is (are?) a pair of EDG 10x42s now on ebay. Perhaps they have been released a bit sooner than expected. Tony

The 8.5x42 ELs are just INCREDIBLE! The rest of the package, well.......

Steve, This is excellent news. I have been delaying the purchase of 10x binoculars in the hope the Canon IS would be of high quality and performance. Your quick evaluation makes them seem very promising. Thanks for your post! Tony

The 8.5x42 ELs are just INCREDIBLE! The rest of the package, well.......

Steve, Not to take this thread veering off course, but I am quite interested in the new Canon 10x42s. I have unable to find much info so far but it seems that you might have some insights. Is there anything you can share? Thanks, Tony

Old Trinovids, warts and all, still the most comfortable binocs I've ever used.

Hi, Steve. I'm assuming the roof prisms in your 7x35s are not phase coated. Is that correct? Thanks, Tony

    Interesting New Conquest Models

I have been in the hunt for a pair of 8x32 roofs and recently requested literature from Zeiss on their 8x32 FLs (OK, I'll admit it...I still like getting paper brochures). The literature arrived today and along with it came a brochure for two new Conquest models - an 8x40 and a 10x40. More...

    8X32 FL vs 8X42 FL

Field Flatteners Henry, With respect to your comment about field flatteners, what are the tradeoffs that preclude designers from incorporating field flatteners in all binoculars? Thanks very much for your insights, Tony

CA Levels in Zeiss 8x32 FL?

All, Has anyone had the opportunity (& inclination) to evaluate the Zeiss 8x32 FL with respect to CA? I have come to appreciate the low level of CA in my 7x42 FLs but am cautious about assuming familial similarity for the 8x32s because of their different prism system and focal ratio. Any...

Zeiss FL 7x - Anybody tried these yet?

I've had a pair of the 7x42 FLs for almost a month. I am exceptionally pleased with them...enough so that I am seriously considering selling my Nikon 8x32 SEs. The 7x42s do suffer from the edge sharpness issues attributed to the FL line but in practice the field of view is so large that I...

High speed cards for Nikon D70

I can't speak to the others but I use a pair of Sandisk Ultra II 512MB cards and have had flawless operation with them. If I recall well, they are rated "60x" by Sandisk. Tony
