Product Review: The Sky Rover Banner Cloud 8 x 42 Binocular

Good Morning, Thanks for your reply. I ordered mine via Aliexpress directly. I ordered mine on March 15 and it took about three weeks to get to Scotland. Unfortunately, they are selling rapidly. So I guess the only thing to do is keep an eye out for when they are restocked and then place your...

    Perhaps another game changer

Hello Viraj, Some very sensible points there. If I were interested in these as everyday instruments I’d definitely buy three of the Banner Clouds over an NL or anything similar. Its a no brainer. That said, I have no sustained interests in these bigger models anyway but happy to have a perfect...

Product Review: Zeiss Victory Pocket 8 x 25.

Thanks Alperozaltin Much appreciated! I’m very happy with the Zeiss VP. Its optical capabilities continue to impress me and find it very easy to use. Furthermore, I’ve had no issues with the dioptre after 4 months of fairly regular use. That said, I certainly acknowledge that both the Zeiss VP...

Leica UV 8x20 versus Zeiss Victory 8x25

Good timing! And thank you for the feedback! I just saw you finally had a chance to check the Leica and Zeiss VP out. I had a feeling you’d opt for the Zeiss. It continues to impress me! Wishing you lots of fun with your new acquisition! Best wishes, Neil

Product Review: Zeiss Victory Pocket 8 x 25.

Hi, i would not use Kitchen towels to clean the optics. A good microfibre cloth is a safe bet used with a good cleaning solvent like Baader Optical Wonder or some such. These days I’ve resorted to using disposable Zeiss wipes. They clean without leaving streaks. Regards, Neil

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Observed a beautiful crescent Moon and Jupiter in the evening sky - approximately 5.1 angular degrees apart. A very fine sight in my 10 x 50!

    Habicht for birdwatching?

Cheers Paul, It sure is purdy! Just came back from a long walk with the Habicht in lovely spring sunshine and a brisk wind. Inspirational! Haven’t seen the Sun in nearly two weeks. Then this intensely bright object appeared in the sky. Is it a UFO? No its our yellow dwarf star! 😆 Enjoy your...

    Habicht for birdwatching?

Congrats on your acquisition RenierB! I recently acquired the 8x 30W also. What a charming little glass. Amazing optics and great ergonomics. My new reference standard to assess all other compact binos. It is, in my opinion, “Reality through the Looking Glass.” Best wishes, Neil.

Product Review Part II: Svbony SA405 85mm ED Spotting Scope: Eyepieces & Imaging Capabilities.

Howdy folks: Still very much enjoying the SA405 spotting scope after all these months of use. I managed to capture another image a few days back of some nesting Grey Herons that have returned to the exact same conifer tree as last season just beyond my back garden. This is the same tree as...

    Opticron 8x25 Aspheric 3

Hello; This model, or rather its predecessor, the Opticron Aspheric LE 8 x 25 WP, which is pretty much identical to the newly launched Aspheric 3, is discussed at considerable length in my chapter on pocket glasses from my new book: Choosing & Using Binoculars. It’s a nice piece of kit...

Product Review: Oberwerk SE 8 x 32 ED.

Hi Paul, Yeah it would be nice to see such ergonomic developments but I personally don’t mind its heftiness. In my own hands it’s perfectly balanced. Indeed it kind of reminds me of the Nikon Action EX 7 x 35 which is also built like a proverbial tank with its thick rubber armouring. My test...

Product Review: Oberwerk SE 8 x 32 ED.

Good Evening Phil, Many thanks indeed for your review of the Oberwerk SE 8 x 32. This unit does indeed have exceptional optics that punch way above its modest retail price! It was a real eye opener for me too! Thanks also for the thumbs up on the book! With best wishes, Neil.

GPO Passion ED 8x32, when was hydrophobic coating introduced?

Interesting: There are GPO dealers claiming the Passion EDs have a hydrophobic coating on the objectives: https://www.firstlightoptics.com/all-binoculars/gpo-passion-ed-32mm-binoculars.html I would suggest GPO contact those dealers to correct such misinformation. Neil
