New but probably wrong insight about lowlight

I have been rethinking this over and over and maybe I have a new insight. I could be wrong though. So please correct me. I am here to learn. I have always been asking myself which one is better in lowlight: 8x42 vs 10x42, 8x32 vs 10x32, 8x25 vs 10x25, etc. when all other specifications are the...

    Old porro 7x50

Hello, My recently passed away father, may he rest in peace, left this old porro. No brand is mentioned. Where does it come from? Does somebody know that? It quite we bright and sharp pair of binoculars. A bit of a yellowish glow, but still quite a nice and 3D view. Just wondering if it has...

8x20 in possession. Which one to add?

I already have the Trinovid 8x20. I like it, because it is so small and it is not the newest, so I do not have to pamper it. I'd like to add a swarovski pocket bin and I like all three of them. Which one would be the most af an addition? Comfortable in use, quality and glare resistance are...

    Diopter settings

I have been looking at this for several times and still don't know what is meant with "dpt", "diopter correction at infinity" and "diopter adjustment" on the website of Swarovski. Can anybody explain it to me? I do not wear glasses, so I have the meaning it is not important to me at all. But is...

    Binoculars and glasses/contact lenses

Hello folks, I am 39 years old and I already need glasses for reading. (So I am farsighted if I am right). I wonder how much I already have to take into account that I need glasses all the time in the future? So letting the binoculars with small eye relief going and maybe not even considering...

    Habicht for birdwatching?

Hi there, There has been a lot of stuff being said about the Habicht. Not the bird called Habicht in German, but the very beautiful, attractive and retro Habicht 8x30, 10x40 and 7x42. I like them a lot. Last saterday I had the opportunity to look through the Habicht 8x30. What a gem! The view...

    Choosing pocket binoculars

Maybe the people with experience with pocket binoculars can help my deciding which one to buy. I recently bought the Terra 8x25, just to test if pocket binoculars are for me. Now I think: yes! I like the format. Sometimes the NL 10x32 is a bit too heavy/bulky, especially in cases when bird...

    O-rings for eyecups

I would like to try o-rings for my EL 10x50. I think the perfect position for the eyecups would be between the fully extended postion and one down. I do not see the whole FOV when the eyecups are fully extended. One postion down and I see too much blackouts for my liking. If I pull out the...

Who says the EL 50 is too heavy?

My daughter of 5 years old said: no daddy, it is not too heavy... I believe her 😉. Honestly, I was a bit afraid it would have been quite a heavy bin, but it is not, for me (and my daughter at least). Even without an harness, quite comfortable to carry. For longer hikes I have a lighter 42 and...

    Swarovski eye candy...

EL 10x50, SLC 8x42 and NL Pure 10x32. I was waiting for chill6x6, but this topic just didn't show up. :) Besides these swaros I think I will ad an Habicht and a pocket as well in the future. And maybe a SLC 15x56.

15x56 in stead of spotting scope?

I wonder, who has a 15x56 and skipped having a scope and is fully satisfied? I bought a scope (ATC 17-40x56) and already knew: I am not really a spotting scope type. I don't like carrying too much stuff. I prefer watching with both eyes as well. Now I sometimes think: wouldn't a 15x56 be a...

    Transmission Ultravid HD plus

I wonder, why is Leica not really clear about the transmission rates of all the Ultravid's? Or am I overlooking them? I have read on the internet 88%, but I have read 92% as well. What is true? Do Ultravid's shine in dim light? Or are Zeiss and Swarovski winners on this area? What makes an...

    Abbe-König prisms

What I wonder as well: what is exactly the advantage of Abbe-König prisms? Is it only the brighness or is it more than that? Swarovski SLC 56 has Abbe-König prisms and achieve 93% transmission (the SLC 42 doesn't have Abbe-König and has "only" 91% transmission). The Zeiss conquest 56 has...

Depth Of Field better when diameter is larger?

I have a Swaro SLC 8x42 and a Zeiss Terra 8x25 and found the DOF of the 8x42 way better. Is that because of the larger diameter (42 vs 25) or is it just because the quality of the optics of the SLC is better? Can I say, the larger the diameter the deeper the DOF? Or doesn't the lens diameter...

Happy owners of a pocket 10x25?

I wonder, who has a 10x25 and is happy with it? Why do you have it? Why not a 8x25 or 8x20 or 7x21 instead? No regrets having a 10 power? It's lightweight and has only 2.5mm exit pupil. So not really stable/comfortable I suppose? Just really wonder what the main purpose of 10x25 owners is.

10x low light binoculars for around €1000 ?

Good day, I am saving up for a 10 power low light binoculars for around €1000. Secondhand is an option as well. What would you suggest? I do not wear glasses, so the Habicht 10x40 would be an option. I am also thinking of the Zeiss Conquest 10x42. Which one would be better for low light...

Terra ED 8x25 soft pouch + lens covers

I just purchased the Terra ED 8x25. I am happy with it! The optics are really nice, considering the price. The hinges are JUST firm enough. I prefer them to be a little more tight, but it is ok. I received it with the hard case. However, for some reason I hoped them to be delivered with this new...

92% transmission of the NL Pure 32 measured?

I was a bit surprised to read that the NL 32 has 92% transmission, when they came out. The NL 42 has 91%. The SF 42 has 92% and the SF 32 has 90%. At least, that is what the specs say. I always wondered why the NL 32 should have more transmission than the NL 42. With Zeiss it is the other way...

Having 2 pairs of binoculars. Which would you choose?

If you could only have two pairs of binoculars. Which two would you chose to cover up all your needs? If you still would miss something, you may choose a third. But there must be a good reason for it. I am asking this question myself... Having two pairs already and always said two is enough. But...

    Carrying tripod/scope

How do you carry your tripod/scope on a (short) walk? What is the most comfortable way for you? Do you put it on your shoulder and hold it with one hand? Do you put in or on a backpack? Do you use a strap and carry it like a handbag? I am still figuring out what would be the most comfortable way...

    Ball head yes or no?

Good day, I've read on different places that a ball head is not recommended for a spotting scope watching birds. I have never read why not. Do some of you use a ball head? The advantage of a ball head is the weight. Are they usable for a light weight spotting scope (ATC 56)? I just wonder.

    Swarovski tripod

Good day, I am looking for a new lightweight tripod for the ATC 56. I have an old tripod (aluminium) on which you have to turn to adjust the legs (like the new swarovski tripods on the right). First swarovski had clips like you can see at the picture on the left. For me it seems easier to...

    Resolution 32 vs. 50

Good day, I have people heard saying that a 10x50 has more resolution compared to, let's say, a 10x32 because of the lens diameter. Is that true? And if that is true, how will you notice that? Let's say it is a very bright day, will the 10x50 outperform a 10x32 if you spot an object far away...

    8x42 vs. 10x50 dawn/twilight

I wonder, which one will be better for dawn/twilight? Or would that be subjective? I am thinking about SLC 8x42 vs. EL 10x50. The 8x42 has bigger exit pupil (5.25mm) and better light transmission (91%). Compared with the EL 10x50 it's 5mm and 90%. So on paper the SLC 8x42 would be better, right...

Which 10x binoculars to pair up my SLC 8x42?

Good day all, I have a SLC 8x42 and I simply love them. The only "problem" is that it is not a 10 power. I like the sharpness, brightness, big FOV and the easiness of it. So now I want to pair up the binoculars with a pair of 10 power binoculars. I simply sometimes prefer 10 power (open...
