    Nikon Z5 vs D7200

Would switching over from the D7200 DX format to the new Z5 full frame format be considered an upgrade for bird shots?

    Nikon PF 600mm lens

So I've been saving up for the PF 500mm lens and now there's talk of a PF 600mm lens in the (near?) future. Anyone have any thoughts on how much more that would run? Just wondering if I should just keep saving until the 600 comes out.

    Nikon Z50

Any thoughts on the new Z50 mirrorless in DX format and how it might compare to my D7200?

    Nikkor 200-500 locked or stuck

Was out this morning shooting at about 450mm and when retracting the lens in it stopped at 400mm. It works fine now between 400 and 500. That stop at 400 is a solid stop. Is there a lock I triggered that I don't know about?

    How many shots left

Silly, but it's been so long since I've used my little V3 that I don't remember, and can't figure out, how to find out how much space is left on the card. I'm sure someone here knows. Thanks

    diatomaceous earth

Just out of curiosity, would diatomaceous earth be ok to sprinkle into nest box to help keep down insects?

    D850 vs D500

Sorry if this has already been hashed out. Would a cropped bird image from a D850 come out better quality than the same size image on a non-cropped D500 shot?

    carry strap

Is there any kind of shoulder strap to safely use for carrying my D7200 / 200-500 camera? It does get heavy after a while.

    jpeg user to raw

Sorry if this is a rehash. I've been shooting in just jpeg for years now and guess it's time to start trying to work with raw now. Any recommendations on programs? Photoshop, Lightshop, Adobe, are they all the same? Can my macs iPhoto do any of that? Thanks in advance.

    refurbished D500

I've been using a D7200 and have no issues with it. Nikon is offering refurbished D500 bodies for $1499. Should I punch the buy button? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    SLC 8x56 and 10x56 in the U.S.

A very nice surprise, Swarovski North America called me this morning with an offer to stock a very limited # of these models, previously unavailable in the U.S. We should have them on Wed. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

    Nikon AF-S 1.4X Teleconverter

I bought one of these a few years ago and it rattled when I shook it. That didn't seem right, so returned it for a new one. Well, the new one rattled also so I just thought OK, that's the way it is. Is that right, or did I get a second defective, or could they have just sent back the one I...

    D7200 vs D500

I have the D7200 and am very pleased. Would there be any benefit to changing out for D500? One thing that might make me pass on the D500 is the SD / XQD card mix. There are some deals on the D500 body now which is why I ask.

    D7200 to D500?

Filtering through all the goobildy goop, (don't know if goobildy is a real word or correct spelling), would there be enough difference to switch out my D7200 for the D500? I don't do any video (probably should), so just comparing still shots.

    Thanks very much

Well, I'm doing it! After 20 years doing ophthalmic technician work in the navy, then 20 years running an optical shop with my optometrist wife, we're shutting down the optical shop, and I'm going to be opening a brick and mortar outdoor wild bird shop. Whew, that was a long sentence. The...

You can lead a horse to water

So my sister has started to show more of an interest in her backyard birds. I gave her a CL 8x30 for Christmas. She loves them. I get a text from Costa Rica, "You'd love all the birds down here". No fooling. They took a hike in a national park up the side of a volcano. I respond, "Did you bring...

Black Habicht 8x30 w/ Green Rubber Eyecups

Well, to make a binocular fashion statement, decided to see how a set of green rubber eyecups would work on a black Habicht 8x30. First, they weren't as hard to come by, by themselves, as thought. Swarovski North America actually keeps them in stock. They add about 1mm, maybe 2, to the eye...

    First shot with Sigma 150-600

It's a foggy rainy Christmas Eve morning but gave the new lens a go on the Nikon D7200. This is very, very cropped to fit this format.

    Books

I started taking pictures of birds, buying cameras and lenses, etc., and am not unpleased with the results but kind of skipped learning the bare bone basics of photography. Imagine what I could do with a little knowledge. There are a bazillion books on basic, starter photography and theory but...
