Black Woodpecker this morning in the Danube Delta in Romania. What a stunning bird! And so pleasing to finally see one after countless attempts to see them across Europe.

    Mallorca 2024

A quick trip to Bassa de Can Guidet this morning produced Whiskered Tern, Avocet, Common Ringed Plover and Red-crested Pochard along with the usual species. Nothing of note at Prat de Sant Jordi, and a handful of Little Ringed Plovers, Common Sandpipers and Black-winged Stilts at Depuradora de...

    Mallorca 2024

I had a nice trip to Vilafranca this morning, seeing at least 8 Lesser Kestrels, a stunning female Red-footed Falcon (probably 2 actually) and 2 Black Kites. It was a nice surprise to find a Glossy Ibis at the Depuradora there. What a wonderful place it is, it's just stunning to see the...

    Mallorca 2024

It's great to be back in Mallorca for a few days! I haven't been able to do as much birding as I'd have liked, but a trip to Sa Porassa in Magaluf was great, with Glossy Ibis, 2 Squacco Herons, a Black-crowned Night Heron, a Whitethroat and a Whinchat alongside the usual resident species and a 2...

A lovely work(ish) trip to Romania including the Danube Delta has brought four lifers - Middle Spotted and Grey-headed Woodpeckers, Pallas's Gull and, best of all, Dalmatian Pelican.

    Mallorca 2024

I had a nice (if windy) afternoon of birding around Palma today. I started at Cala Gamba, where I was very pleased to find a Lesser Black-backed Gull out to sea, followed by 3 Mediterranean Gulls (a Mallorcan tick for me!) on the wall of the sailing club amidst loads of the more common gull...

    Mallorca 2024

It’s been fantastic to have a few days back in Mallorca for the first time in ages! I sadly haven’t had a huge amount of time for birding, but I’ve been pleased to find a Sparrowhawk and two Goldcrests around Es Capdellà, as well as a couple of fantastic trips to Sa Porrassa, with Penduline...

    Green Sandpiper? Mallorca

Initially when I saw this sandpiper today, I felt it was too big and long-legged to be a Green Sandpiper. Its legs also appeared yellow to me through my telescope, but having taken some (very) long distance photos with my struggling old camera, I think it must surely be one. Is that correct? Thanks!

    Pipit in Mallorca today

    Pipit in Mallorca today

I think this is a Meadow Pipit but I watched it for quite some time flitting about the rocky shoreline near some Turnstones and Sanderlings for a while and its behaviour seemed unlike any Meadow Pipit I've seen before. Could it be something else? Thanks!

    Bunting in Spain

Taken today - is this a Yellowhammer or a Cirl Bunting? Thanks!

    Small wader - Somme (France)

    Common Sandpiper I think!

    Mallorca 2022

Thanks Mike! I'm going to try and find out the answer to that question right now!
