Thanks for the info & I'm not disagreeing in principle, though reviewing camera footage it's clear they both hit the ground with a considerable thump.

    Bluetits nesting

Sadly this is the last for this year 😢 After relocating the youngsters, & parents continuing the feeding (well apparently), sadly 1 passed away last night, the other this morning. The female continued to bring food early morning but the remaining chick just wasn't interested. I suspect that...

    Bluetits nesting

OK, I'm bracing myself, as I'm sure someone will disagree with my action, but... This morning I checked the box camera and there was no sign of the chicks! A quick look around the garden and one was spotted huddled in a corner the other pitifully hopping around. I have to say here that it is a...

No matter how hard she tries to clear the nest, the body just won't go through the hole. (I hope this plays)

    Does size matter for Bluetits?

If this seems a little odd please bear with me. Almost everything I read says nest boxes should be around a certain size. I've noticed, in my limited experience, that when bluetits nest they usually lay between 6-9 eggs though often only a couple survive to fledge. Could this be, at least in...

Yes, it is indeed hard. As of day 14 only 2 are surviving. On the plus side, they both seems active & hungry for food.

Seems moving from grubs to more solids was rather too much for one youngster. Even the parents had something of a fight with it ;)

    Bluetits nesting

I read somewhere it usually takes 14 days for the eggs to hatch, but my lot have taken 19 this year. 7 eggs in total. Can anyone see how many have hatched? I can't see any actual eggs left but counting the little blighters is proving awkward ;)

After 38 days of building, finally the moment captured. First 2 eggs!:)

    Bluetits nesting

Four weeks after she started building the nest. No eggs yet (AFAICS) but, although he's brought food previously, this is the first time she's accepted it. Does this mean laying could be imminent? BTW, I've always thought distinguishing between sexes is largely a matter of the depth of colour of...

    Bluetits nesting

It seems the male is rather too eager to begin feeding  She's just this morning started laying down the soft top layer so it shouldn't be long now.

Thanks EvShaz, I have to admit it's pure luck. About 4 yrs ago they nested but then nothing. They have spent nights since over colder winter months but no nest. Then this year "bingo":). Fingers crossed for success 🤞
